OSX Lion, Graphic Artifacts

A normal day using Lion. Getting more than a bit fed up now.

let's all send feedback into apple so they are aware and point them to this thread so they fix this in 10.7.3. it's a driver issue - people who have replaced ktext's have working machines

Yep, 10.7.3 didn't fix it for me either. This is really getting ridiculous.

MusioMan, is there an easy way to revert to the Snow Leopard ktext?

Andrew - you have to trawl through the threads i'm afraid.. haven't tried it myself. Report back if you find sucess though!

I read that 10.7.3 has updated nvidia drivers on the net... I haven't installed it yet but i will do the combo over the weekend.

Currently, i'm shocked apple only mentioned the ATI fix in the notes and nothing about the nvidia. I alone sent apple multiple crash reports daily...

I compared leo's .kext with the one in lion and tried to changed different entries. I also replaced the whole file with leo's version. No difference... -.- The only solution for me was to rename/delete the .kext.

I did see that thread and will try the suggested solution (deleting the AppleGraphicsPowerManagent.kext and rebooting in safe mode) if I can't find another solution. I've just uninstalled Perian (following a suggestion I found on the MacRumors forums) to see if that makes a difference.

My video card is an ATI HD 5750 with 1024 MB of RAM, BTW.

I am having the same problem but only when I am using Safari, on my iMac 24" with a Nvidia GT120.

iMac 24" with a Nvidia GT120 is the same machine i have. It happens with even finder! It's not related to just safari....and it never happens in graphic intensive games... :/

I had similar issues (I called them "Space Invaders", shows my age) back in 09/11. Trial and error for me turned out to be Flash. I did clean install of Lion and never updated Flash when prompted. Five months now no "Space Invaders", Lion still locks up occasionally, but that is for another thread...

It's not Flash, it's not Perian (I uninstalled both and still multiple graphic glitches a day) - it's Lion. Something is horribly wrong and Apple doesn't seem to want to fix it. Our best hope is they somehow fix it by accident with a system update.

Same iMac and same issue...I would say that Safari was always open whenever I've seen the artifacts, but I'm not 100% sure. I will try to check that from now on...

I have the exact same problem as you Anke. As i'm from Belgium we don't have official Apple stores, i took my iMac (wich is medio 2009 and 3 days away for it's AC waranty void date) back to the shop (wich is an official apple reseller and they may open up macs and perform reparations)

They swapped my graphic card for a new one, and nothing changed, the problems is still occurs and even a bit worse. It only happens after i used intensive software for the graphic card (the problem always occurs after rendering 3D)

Today i will send them a mail (to have proof i've sent them before the waranty void date, because they are criminals who rip you off constantly 😝) and call them. I don't know what's happening but the idea of a corrupt driver is possible the cause, or the logic board is broken. Either way i hope they solve it...

What did you do? And did they fixed it for you?

Sorry to hear the problem remains for you, toStephen, but it's actually very good to know that changing the graphics card didn't fix the problem. That makes it even more clear that it's a software issue - most likely a driver within Lion.
