Jul 31, 2011 7:56 PM in response to Hakko83by jockamo47,I also am experiencing graphic artifacts but only while using Safari. These artifacts appear when I am going into Top Sites and only lasts for a fraction of a second. The actual appearance of the artifacts changes. Sometimes it appears as a mostly gray screen with streaks in it. And sometimes it appears as a distorted version of the screen I have just left.
It happens all the time I am going into Top Sites, regardless whether I have just started my day i.e. the computer is cool, or 10 hours later when the computer is hot.
I have a 27 inch iMac from early 2010.
System 10.6.8
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac11,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: IM111.0034.B02
SMC Version (system): 1.54f36
Hopefully our different stories will help Apple comprehend and fix the problem.

Thanks again

Jul 31, 2011 10:50 PM in response to jockamo47by jockamo47,Maybe I will get it together and get all of the information down in one post. I also forgot to mention that this problem only started after I updated Safari to the 5.1 version.

I'm pretty sure it's not heat related at least in my case, even if I run the fans at 100% and temp is 30C, finder is still producing these strange artifacts, but so far I have only seen these artifact in finder and nowhere else.

Aug 3, 2011 8:37 AM in response to Hakko83by Robertpetry,It seems like a software/driver issue to me since multiple people are having what appears to be the same issue on different machines.
However, once I installed SmcFanControl I have not had any recurrance of the problem. ???

Aug 7, 2011 12:35 PM in response to Hakko83by black_ice,Exact same issue here, iMac 27" mid 2011 with AMD 6970 2048 MB.
Artifacts on the menu bar, dock and dashboard.... I hope this will be fixed in 10.7.1.

Aug 8, 2011 8:44 AM in response to Hakko83by AndrewFromTRF,Same issues here. 27" iMac mid 2011 w/ AMD 6970 2GB.
Going to wait for 10.7.1, really hope they fix it. I really don't want to have to send the whole iMac in for replacement...
Also, with the issues mentioned above, I have strange verticle lines through the whole display sometimes. They usually disappear after a bit.
Also, during video playback the lower half of the screen glitches out and ends up being a few seconds behind the upper half?
And one more thing... During startup, my computer seems to hang for about 10-15 seconds at the grey screen before the Apple logo appears.
PRAM reset doesn't help, nor does unplugging for ~10-15 seconds.
Called Apple Care, they said to reinstall Lion. This didn't help either.
I think it has to be a software issue since it appears in screen grabs, but I could be wrong..
