Is iLink the same as Firewire?

Once again, please excuse the novice question...

One of my Sony camcorders has an iLink connector and cable. I've found mixed message whilst trawling the web and some suggest that iLink is merely Sony's name for Firewire. If this is the case (seeing that the Firewire and iLink connectors are different) can I connect my Sony MICRO MV camcorder to my iMac with the iLink cable and some sort of adaptor? Secondly, will iMovie recognise the camcorder and read the video files accordingly?

Thanks again,
Dom.

That is correct. Another name is IEEE1394.

Unfortunately, no. MicroMV is NOT using the DV standard the rest of the world uses. I would take the camera back and buy a miniDV instead.

DV standard requires Firewire. But Firewire does not guarantee DV.
