Can access my Conceptronic NAS ( CH3HNAS ) but can't open any folder.

I have installed OS X 10.7 (Lion) and I noticed a LOT of people started having problems with their NAS. Basically most people can't mount/access the NAS. My problem is different since I CAN access it but I am not able to open any folders on my Conceptronic model CH3HNAS. I am trying to login using 2 different accounts (the default 'admin' and a personal one) both with admin privileges but I can only see the first level of folders, I can't open any of them. Lion says I don't have permission to see the contents.User uploaded file

I have emailed Conceptronic, I'll post any replies here.

In the meanwhile anyone knows how can I restore access to the folders? Any command line tricks?

Cheers

@Governa,

In OS X Lion, Apple moved to DHX2 authentication within its Netatalk 2.2. That has left users trying to back up or access files with Time Machine on the affected NAS devices - which use an older version of Netatalk - unable to do so, and has prompted errors while trying to access files.

Firmware update from your NAS provider may resolve this issue. I hope this helps

@Kfra71,

It seems to be OS X 10.7 Lion Server removes the formerly bundled open source Samba software and replaces it with Apple's own tools for Windows file sharing and network directory services. The new replacement for Samba (I think it's SMBX), and supports Microsoft's newer SMB2 version of its proprietary but openly published protocol.

The version of Samba Apple had been using prevented Macs from seamlessly working with modern PCs running Windows 7, which include security changes in how encryptions protocols work. Apple's own software won't be constrained by the design limitation of Samba.

End users could conceivably obtain Samba on their own and integrate it into their Mac OS X environment themselves, but Samba does not currently provide ready to use binaries for Mac OS X, and a pure port of Samba would lack Apple's easy to use user interface and tight integration with other Apple software, including Open Directory.

I hope that this advice resolves the issue for you.

I just gave up and use WinXP under Lion via Virtualbox to access my NAS. Works as it should.

OK I found a free and easy solution.

Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.

I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.

I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.

Hope it helps you all.

I fixed it. My NAS and Mac mini with Lion are communicating again. 😁 Still working on timemachine😕

I'll try to create a howto in some days, but I owe a lot of thanks to Fonz, Thebeck and Mutantlog.

You can use the following links as a starting point:

Funplug installation: http://wiki.dns323.info/howto:ffp this location also shows the NAS that support funplug
