Q: Lion is draining battery twice as fast as snow leopard

How do you know someone else isn't having the same trouble I was? It WAS draining my battery.

Paul, I don't believe that these forums are monitored for bug duplication counts.  The point of my post was simply to indicate that the fixes prescribed in this thread have not worked for me at all.  I think though, I'll just go open a bug in ADC.  It's probably a better venue in general. 

dysmike, have you tried opening the Console app and seeing if there are any errors popping up? That's how I determined what was causing my problem.. and then I fixed it. It was an app that was constantly crashing and the OS was trying to constantly launch it.

My logs are currently nothing but informational.  Installs, backups, etc.  Nothing launching over and over etc.  I've opened a bug now though, so I'll wait and see what comes of that I guess.  Or I'll rebuild this box to 10.6.8 and then fully regression test it on my own.  Thanks!

The SMC and power resets are the same for devices with an unremovable battery, like a MacBook Air.

I did both and my battery, which was already fluctuating, completely died, to the point where it's unable to provide power for more than 30 seconds or so.  Apple confirmed that I have a power/battery problem.

The telltale sign is the screen that appears after logging in.  It looks like grey linen paper -- then the screen goes black and the computer dies.

I suspect a Lion connection.  The shop -- an indie Apple-authorized repairer, not an Apple Store -- will have to confirm or deny it for me tomorrow.

It reduces battery life and increases heat in the MBP . Lion has excellent fan control built in !!

I hope it's not too late for me to jump in here. I bought a brand new MacBook Pro yesterday. I fully charged the battery and found it to report 10 hours available! I went about my day transeferring files, apps and other info from the old MBP to this one. After that I noticed that my battery, fully charged, only reported 3 hours of battery. After much troubleshooting, including following tips in this thread (non of which worked), I realized a small, but important detail - Bluetooth was on. My old MBP had bluetooth enabled. I'm assuming when I imported the settings from the old system, it also turned on BT on this laptop.

My suggestion, for anyone reading this thread, is to check your bluetooth settings. Make sure it's off if you don't need it on. If I enable BT, my battery life drops by about 66% immediately. No matter what I do, I can't get this battery to report more than 3 hours available with BT enabled (often less). If I turn it off, I fluctuate between 8 and 10 hours, depending on my activities.

Yes, LION does kill battery. There are quite a few threads on the subject, just search for battery life or horrible battery life. Hopefully a fix soon - or maybe not!
