Cd burning stops after itunes says "checking media"

Hey would really appriciate some help with this when i checked the help section i got no useful information and even my computer literate flatmate had no idea!!

Whenever i try to burn a cd, i select the playlist, choose burn to disc, and when it gets to checking media, it justs stops and goes back to the apple sign in top middle of itunes, then sometimes chucks the cd out. I used to be able to burn discs. Here are my CD Diagnostics;

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

Wow, what a mess. You have a Dixon Store Group MS-7046 desktop machine with an Advent T9305 motherboard inside of it. This configuration is not listed on either the Dixon Store Group or the Advent support site. But it appears that this computer was for sale at some point in the UK version of Amazon, so it obviously exists. And then, they've bundled it with a very obscure OEM drive that LG refuses to support because it's an OEM drive.

Well, they've limited our options, but let's see what we can do.

Error -128 is "user cancelled error". Are you manual aborting the burn when it gets into this "checking media" state?

What happens if you put the CD in before you start the burn and "let it settle" for a minute and then click the burn button? Can you give me your CD diagnostics where you put an audio CD in that D: drive?

Toonz
thank you for your quick reply

First question, i am not manually aborting the burn, the computer starts 'checking media' then the red and black icon in the top right covers over and the apple logo appears in the main area at the top.

Second question, i tried all various conbinations of when to put the cd in the burn drive and see below for diagnostic

Have you tried different media, CDRW or a different brand of CDR or a different speed of CDR? Are they 1x-4x media or 4x-10x media?

The behavior you're seeing is consistent with the drive not liking something about the media. Like I see that behavior if I put a DVD-R disc into a drive that only burns DVD+R media. Do these discs work fine with other burning applications?

It's a dirty little secret that not all media works in every drive. And since there's no Windows system API for burning CDs, every application does its own version of this code and the timing differences and the difference in the command sequences, slight as they are, can make a difference in which media the drive accepts.

Hey toonz

i tried a different kind of cd-r this time it started the burn then cancelled it i got a message saying that the disk wasn't big enough even though the playlist is only 1.1 hours and 64.6mb on a disk that is 52x speed, 700mb and 80 mins.
please find attached the diagnostic i hope it helps
thanks again

I will add my diagnostics to your problem since it appears we have the same drive and problem. I use to be able to burn with no problems. I can burn the songs using Windows Medica Player but that doesn't solve anything for iTunes.
