iCal in Lion - I want my monthly calendars on the left side back

First, I agree with the frustrations I've read around multiple calendars and the fact that you can't easily swich between them anymore for adding new events (Not a smart move, frankly, but hey, Apple can do what they want, at least it seems like they feel that way).

More important to me is that the left sidebar where calendar list used to reside also allowed you to have the next three or four months displayed for reference. That too appears to be gone. At least I can't figure out how to get it back--if the functionality is there and I can't find it great, though it shouldn't be so well hidden. I used this a lot and I'm pretty frustrated about how it appears to now be gone, or at least very hard to find.

I get that the "true beleivers" don't think we should question Apple as they know all about how things should work and if they don't think I need something, they are right and I am wrong. Unfortunately, I simply don't agree with that position, and I've used Macs/Apple products ever since the first Mac was introduced. Just because something on an iPad is "better" in a particular way, taking away functionality on a full computer makes absolutely no sense to me. Espectially since the most talented at Apple likely could easily allow for both in an intuative interface overall. It's just that they aren't being allowed to do that.

---- Yes, that last statement is just my speculation based on very significant frustrations with all the changes in iCal and the other base applications I've historically loved and now find very frustrating and dissappointing in many cases.

I absolutely agree. I have to coordinate appointments very often and with plenty of people. I need the side calendar to quickly switch between weeks (while remaining in weekly view). To just jump from week to week is way too slow. This is no solution add all. If I use the monthly view then I have to switch back to weekly view to actually see all dates.

A part of that - I have a 30" Cinema Display. Sorry, but space is definitely not my concern. If you don't want to have it as a standard setting just bring it back at least as an option to switch on/off.

For pro users this is absolutely a step backward.

I also have to agree. I want those side calendars back. I also want to my nice clean aluminum look back. This Lion update seems to have been done by people who have never used a mac for real work. (Full screen that actually renders a second screen useless. Nil Points)

Were not at nersery here Function not Fluff. As some one said to me many moons ago when Win XP came out was it was way to cuddly, at least Mr Microsoft added the "swich to clasic view" option. I don't beleve that a leather look to the calender adds anything.

Anyone heard anything new here? This is a huge problem for me. I manage 15 calendars, some mobileme, some google, some local. Without the calendar list visible all the time, I often cannot tell which one I'm in (not enough colors, plus I don't want to memorize them). Furthremore, I previously used the mini months CONSTANTLY to reference dates/days in the near future. Ommision of these features, and a refusal to allow them as a user option, is typically infuriating of Apple. I've been a customer for 2 decades and I love their stuff. But they still fail to take business users seriously. This should be an easy fix. In the Apple Store today they apologized and suggested I just use BusyCal or similar. While I've heard that's a good product, that's not the point. We buy Macs so all the included software works seamlessly together. I liked the old iCal. It worked great. I cannot imagine a businessperson would have suggested these changes to Apple during development of the new iCal. Which means they didn't ask any. Which *****. And is far too typical.
