What happened to the Mail "Bounce to Sender" menu item in Lion?

I have to agree! For whatever reason Apple took away this feature, the point is that many of us used it. I don't think we really need the explanations as to why we do not need this feature. Apple is the only company that I see do this time and time again. They do an upgrade and "remove" features that we had on prior versions of the software. Makes no sense at all to remove it, especially since those who do not want to use it can simply remove the button from their toolbar. That is the whole point of the "customize toolbar" area, to add or remove what we want or do not want.

I hope they wake up and bring this bounce feature back soon.

I see that this discussion goes into tunnel vision of using bounce as a mechanism of fighting spam. Yes, it may be sometimes a usefull for that, but it is a general mail function and can be used in many ways.

Apple tunnel vision is that its users are stupid so it needs to protect them by not giving them functions. This philosophy rendered greatly unusable iOS. Same philosophy now goes back to OSX. Functionality is going to decrease to the level of stupidity in couple of iterations. It is already getting there. Apple forgot it has advanced users too.

I do not see the point of fighting for functions. If Apple do not see the point, I see even less point. Apple wants to cripple their own software, who am I to tell them not to do it.

So why I use bounce?

I use bounce to test mail server message handling. Nothing to do with spam.

That is the reason I am still on 10.6 and heavily contemplating that my next hardware/software will not be Apple.

If Apple do not give me a tool, I will not use their tool. Its actually a simple outcome. One specific - demanding user less, couple of idiot users more. More people realize they lack functions - less people will use it. More people like idiotic software, more idiots are going to use it. Apple end up with people they desire to work with. Since money is the name of the game and specific users do not make money result is obvious - idiots will rule. Result of the trend: iOS is already joked to be i(diot)OS. (and honesly I see only idiots still sticking to it - until contracts expire 🙂 ). Warning: idiots are not loyal - they will do what is popular. Apple is already out of fashion.

I have stopped advocating OSX and apple hardware about 3 years ago - this is when I realized what is general direction of apple user base. I also used Apple for 30 years since apple ][ seen rise and fall of the company several times.

Wake up people! Do you want good tools? Search for them, use them, make them!

You sound like you would be better suited to Windows. Their rangers are usually a year behind also. Spamming in illegal and thus Bounce was removed.

The original poster simply asked why there was no bounce feature in Lion. Instead of simple answers, all we really see here is everyone's opinion as to why he shouldn't use Bounce. Not what he asked people!!

I liked Bounce, I used it for my own purposes in a legal manner. It gave me good results as far as reducing my Spam. The same as the original poster, I just wanted to know why Apple removed it. I'm not the least bit interested in anyone here explaining to me why I don't need it.

The original poster would have been better off addressing Apple on this matter. All he's getting here is a bunch of people who "think" they know why Apple removed it. No one here knows why Apple removed this feature. The last posts says "Spam is illegal thus Apple removed the Bounce button." How the **** do you know this is why they removed it?

Some MBA geek told them it is not needed most likely. Don't dare ask users what they think.... Just impose what Apple think on everyone. I wonder if all the pasting issues have been fixed ? Glad I have not gone to Lion yet.

Then if you are not happy with what other users here think then leave the forums and go and contact Apple directly. Bounce has gone. Over two years ago. End of story.

What pasting issues? No one else seems to have them. Start a thread on it if you have a problem with your system as it sounds like you do.

I started a thread and the only comments I got were work arounds not any attempt to define and fix the issues which are with mail app.

1) Yes I do for now. And I want to keep it ...

2) I might just be looking at the Lion forum to see how much is wrong with it so I can decide whether to upgrade/downgrade or not.

Labelling people spammers is just a straw man attack. Bounce is a reply to an email giving the impression that the recipient does not exist. It can be useful in several ways. Calling it spamming is nonsense.

Pete, why don't you get off your high horse. A little understanding of people's frustration would go a long way to making this forum a nicer place to be. You attitude seems very antagonistic.

I agree and sadly its the same with many of the so called "support" people on this site. I would think that a support furum would be for support. People coming here have a problem or a grievance and they can be expected to be unhappy.

Interestingly I had reason to talk to Tech support in Australia today and the young lady I spoke too was one of the nicest and most helpful I have ever encountered. It was very refreshing and I felt happy even though she did not solve my issue.
