What happened to the Mail "Bounce to Sender" menu item in Lion?
I used to use this on a daily basis. Where did it go? Is it gone? If so, why?
So many things missing, broken or changed. : <
Mac OS X (10.7), Mail app

You can add this back in using Automator to put it in the Services menu found under the Mail menu item. I found this helpful weblink. It seemed to work for me: http://oregontechsupport.com/articles/osx-mail-bounce.php
Still, I don't know why Apple would take this useful feature away. It seems like they are stripping away higher level features in every corner of every app and piece of hardware one by one. Soon, even the most loyal Mac users (like myself) will switch over to PC's or some other crappier system just to get the basics back. Sad. Just sad.
I can’t find it either.
I hope it hasn’t been removed because ios doesn’t have it.
Thanks ... Ken
This appears to be removed. Bounce has also been pulled out of the Applescript dictionary.
I am very disappointed and upset when functionality like this (that I rely on) gets removed.
Why do you bounce email on a daily basis?
Probably removed as most emails you want to bounce are from fake or spoofed emails. Most of the ones I've bounced in the past are often returned as 'Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender'
Because I get spam email from valid addresses from the UAE. Somehow I got on several Abu Dabhi marketing lists where people use legit email addresses much of the time. Can't get off of them but at least I can bounce the emails right back.
I'm missing it too. I used bounce a lot. I asked a Genius today and he had no clue about bounce. Ugh
You won't find the Bounce function in Lion Mail. It has been removed from this version.
But I want it back.
Why Lion? Why have you taken so much functionality away that I used in Snow Leopard?
Many people us bounce to return junk mail as undeliverable. It is a reliable way to get removed from mailing lists because it looks to the sender like the recipient address is no good. Requesting removal through the senders unsusubscribe window only gets yo on even more mailing lists.
It really doesn't work like that, and is a fake bounce, since it can be told by those who want to know that your email server had already accepted it. It has been long standing advice to not use that function.
Bounce is counterproductive -- see:

Notice that this one is writtern from the perspective of bouncing an mail which has already been accepted by your email account and its server, which is what we are all talking about:

Now if you can get your server to not accept a messsage, then you got something worthwhile.

I get spam from the UAE and France every day. Most of the time it is from a legit address.
I've got a Mac.com email address. No way I can configure the server.
I have not intended to suggest you change anything. Only commenting on the futility of the bounce feature once in Mail. But if you could have filters that would block before your server accepts, that is the only efficacious way to bounce.
Ernie
But I'm telling you that Bounce works(ed) for me. I understand what you're saying about the serverside filters.
