OS X Lion Server hangs on install ("authenticating")

I'm trying to update my headless/keyboardless/mouseless Mac Mini Server (mid-2010) running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server. I've been able to download Server.app from the App Store without problem, but when I run it, it asks for my admin password and hangs at the "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in the bottom left corner. It appears to be hanging at this authentication bit.

WHAT I DID

Installed Lion.

Downloaded Lion Server from App Store.

Launched Server.app.

WHAT I EXPECTED

Lion Server to install.

WHAT HAPPENED

Hangs at "Configuring Services" dialog with an "Authenticating" message in bottom left corner.

Eventually times out with a "The request timed out" error message.

Help?

I had the same ""The request timed out" error message", with Mac mini server 2010 version.

I'm going to crazy for this strange bug.

It still can login OS succesfully, but the server app seemed something wrong on my system.

(Now, I can't login the Server even the correct password is entried)

You can see the Server app is not "INSTALLED" situation from the following photo.

User uploaded file

but when I click "INSTALL" server app,

User uploaded file

It didn't have any help if I choose Software Update frim Apple menu.

So I tried to delete the server app, the click "INSTALL" again,

such texts shown,

User uploaded file

Since both Lion & Lion Server already purchased on 19 July,

I just click "Buy Both", I remembered it seemed both apps begin re-download,

but the Server app still not work, can't login anymore(my password unrecognized),

still "not INSTALLED" on Mac app store Purchase record,

Then I got another receipt from Apple, the purchase became double-counted.

After reporting the problem to Apple, refund was done.

But My Server.app was still in a very strange situation.....😢

I only tried re-install server.app but without whole system re-install in the above case,

maybe I will try to click "Buy Both" again,

try to Re-install the whole system later to see if the bug disappears.

I've solved the "App Store Problem" deleting the

ServerVersion.plist

in HD->System->Library->CoreServices (Don't empty the trash until the new installation".

But I don't have the solution for the "Authentication Idle Status" during the installation. You can re-launch the installation of lion wich overwrite the O.S. deleting the configuration of the server app. Then you can re-download and install the app but I have no tried this solution.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I tried this flow, but unfortunately the "App Store Problem" still exists.

I tried re-install the whole system twise after the post above.

When Re-download server.app complete, "INSTALLED" shown for a while,

but as long as I quit the server.app then reflesh the App store Purchase list,

It became "INSTALL" again.

Another experiment, after Re-install OSX 10.7 (1st time use WiFi, 2nd time bypass my AP)

the "Server Authentication Idle Status" during the installation first time reboot still happened.

And server.app "not INSTALLED" still shown.

Strange. When I've deleted the file plist, I've rebooted and then re-downloaded for free the Server App. Now I've a problem: I need to complete the installation because I've to stop the web and wiki services. The "authentication idle" is frustrating. I hope for an upgrade. I also see that Facetime have problem with the authentication in MobileMe service.

Ok, I've reinstalled Lion and then I've runned Server. In a first moment the software told me "Download and install software" as the first time I've installed it. Finally I've solved the problem: the server app was run correctly and I was able to deactivate the wiki and web option. Now I've decided to not uninstall the server app. Simply leave it deactivated.

I need some tutorial for use all the functions correctly. I've searched in Google but I don't find anything interesting.

Same situation. Brand New Mac Mini, turned on, created account, went to App Store, signed in and downloaded Lion Server.

It's stuck on 'Authenticating'

A quick look at the log reveals the following entry about 20 minutes ago

GPDServer launchdadd[490]: Could not copy right com.apple.ServiceManagement.daemons.modify. AuthoizationCopyRights() error -6007: (The authorization was denied since no user interaction was possible).

Makes me think it should have shown an authentication dialog box but I've been sitting here and nothing happened.

Ok, just am I'm typing this... Now Server App just presented a dialog box "The request timed out" with an ok button.Clicking Ok appears to start it again....

And now it's got the green checkmark and says it's done. Sorry that doesn't help you much Michael, but did yours let you try again? Does it time out every time? Is there anything useful in the log?
