Well the problem continues with the new iPhone 4S! I recently got my new 4S with Telstra here in Sydney on the 14th of October with a new plan. Within 2 days i got a SMS notifying me i had used 80% of my 2GB monthly allowance! A day later i had use 105%!
As i owned an iPhone 3GS i am familiar with smart phone usage but had never incurred this type of incident on my old iPhone. I rang Telstra and they were able to tell me in an 18 hour period about 800mb data was transferred from my phone to the network, followed by another packet of 800mb! 1.6GB in a few days. This has never happened on my 3GS.
When i looked at my Cellular Data Usage, 3GB had been sent and 500mb received. If i was tethering i would understand but i spent half the time at home on my WiFi! After hours on the phone Telstra wiped my charges and gave me another 2Gb but guess what, i've now used 80% of my 4GB allowance...and i made sure no apps were open and reset the cellular data usage counter. Again, sending large amounts of data while receiving very little.
When this is happening the antennas on my iPhone become so hot i could use it as a heater, the battery drains from 100% to shutting down in less than 2 hours. The phone is working overtime sending data, what data? To whom? Apple please! Is my iPhone defective? Is it a software issue. I feel so dumb talking to the people at Telstra they look at me as if i don't know what a smart phone is but after reading all these stories and seeing them having being posted in the last few months makes me wonder something is wrong with iOS 5.
I have pictures of my usage to prove my story if anyone cares to challenge me!
