Bluetooth audio in OSX Lion

In Snow leopard, I would use a plantronics bluetooth headset for facetime and skype chats. Now, in Lion, I can't. I keep getting a bluetooth audio error. I live in a dead zone, so this is a pretty important thing for me.

The console shows the following errors:

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: mClientResponseTimedOut == false - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioDevice.cpp:711

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: result == kIOReturnSuccess - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioEngine.cpp:270

I have also noticed that odd things happen to my audio as long as the device is paired, wether or not it is active. Audio is sometimes output as mono, volume controls do not work for the line out, and audio mutes (even thoguh it is shown as unmuted) at random moments. None of this can be resolved as long as the headset is paired.

Is there anything I can do to get my iMac to use the bluetooth earpiece that worked just fine in Snow Leopard?

iMac 7,1, Mac OS X (10.7)

Just had an odd experience. Tried again to get my Moto S9 to activate, but got the bluetooth audio error followed by a kernel panic.

Saw this webpageand tried to find the options described. they didn't quite match, but what DID seem to work was unpairing my headphones and then immediately after re-pairing, opening the sound preference and ONLY selecting the S9 for output ONLY. If I change input to the S9 i get the bluetooth error right away. It is important that you don't select the device from the bluetooth menubar icon and choose to use it as a device as it defaults to both input and output.

Sound preferences -> OUTPUT ONLY.

Not sure if this is applicable to everyone but it seems to work for me now. I just turned off the bluetooth on the laptop and quit iTunes. Restarted both and followed my steps above and it connected right away.

Does this work for anyone else?

add me to this !!!

I've been having nightmares with bluetooth headsets since I upgraded to Lion. I firmly believed it was to be solved in 10.7.1, then .2.. now i'm not so sure about 10.7.3 from what I read 😟

I'm having these issues with 3 different headphones (sony, jaybird and creative) in two different macbooks (Macbook pro mid 2011 and one of the last macbook airs).

Normally I need to sped 5 mniutes or more to get audio to work..

One more for the pile.

I've had some success linking my Samsung SBH600 headset. It works well once I link it to my MBP.... for a while.

Say I play a movie using VLC and listen through the headphones, once I try to switch back to the MBP speakers nothing happens, the audio on the headphones cuts out and the MBP speakers don't come on. I have to stop the movie playback and restart with the BT headphones not selected....

I've even had the MBP crash completely when trying to change output volume... not fully baked at all.

I just upgraded to Lion from my trusty old PowerBook G4 running Panther.... I've had more crashes with Lion in 1 month than I've had in years with my PowerBook G4.

I guess we're left to keep posting and hope that Apple takes notice.

I have two major complaints that I'm sure you can all relate to.

MacBook Pro + Lion 10.7.2 + Bluetooth Headset (Motorola S10-HD)

1) WHY does iTunes have to launch whenever I connect my headset?? That'd be like Mail.app opening up every time I go to GMail in my browser.

2) Many many times now, I've switched between applications and get bluetooth failure, usually resulting in:

a) the headset going dead with no resolution but to shut down bluetooth and the headset and start over

b) the headset going into a mode which causes audio to sound like a bad long distance call circa 1972 (usually with Skype or Google Hangout)

c) both a) and b) then a HARD CRASH. Once after a hard crash and reboot, I could no longer enable bluetooth on the MBP.

SOOOOO disappointed in this implementation. I no longer want to use the headset for fear of crashes, and I can't return it - the headset works beautifully with my phone.

For what it's worth... I'm new to Mac and extremely disappointed that it's not as magical as all the brainwashed users and sales people made it out to be... I just bought a new MacBook Pro 13" 2.8 w/ upgraded SSD HD, and don't get me wrong, I do like it... but so far it has problems just like any PC...

I've tried THREE (3) brand new and different Bluetooth headphones on my MBP all with the same problems as described above-- I constantly get the "A Bluetooth audio error occurred" error. I ocasionally get the error when no Bluetooth devices are connected.

I was on a quest to find a superior set of wireless headphones and tried the following models: 1) Logitech H800 [$100], 2) Dr. Dre Beats Wireless [$280], and 3) Sennheiser MM 450 TRAVEL [$440]. They all give me problems on the MBP and they all work perfectly on my Dell laptop running Windows 7. I'm running Lion 10.7.2 on my MBP.

Extremely disappointed and frustrated in what was supposed to be a much more pleasant computing experience from the world's most advanced operating system.

I echo these sentiments. It's absurd and outrageous that Apple could release a major new operating system, with Bluetooth that does not work. I have spent a huge amount of time trying all the fixes, from deleting com.apple.bluetooth files, to resetting PRAM and power management. Nothing works. Just updated to 10.7.3 -- no difference.

Apple has to be aware of this issue. Why won't they do anything about it?

For the record, my issue:

-- Sennheiser MM450 headphones

-- It pairs, but audio is completely intermittent - about 50%

-- Also several seconds delayed watching videos

I've no idea if this has sorted it but fingers crossed my Bose Soundlink is now working on Bluetooth, wish me luck!

APPLE, this is f**king disgraceful you've not fixed this yet, very very dissapointed, it's just a Bluetooth speaker, it should just work, **** they do with Windows, it can't be hard!!

They must have done something to bluetooth. Now I am able to connect my headsets properly but it still ends up in a mess. At leasst they are recognised now. As mentioned in my previous post I have three headsets, only the sennheiser brought out some terrible sound after the update to 10.7.3. All the other headsets I could connect but they crash. It even happend that the MBP (late 2011) crashed after pairing and clicking on "use head set as audio output". I am still very dissapointed having a 1150€ laptop with 2 cents bluetooth.

Hi,

I'm using a Belkin D34 Bluetooth audio receiver (F8Z492) with my Mac Mini and Lion and it worked well until recently when I upgraded to 10.7.3. Now I can't use it anymore. The D34 is reognized and paired as audio device but as soon as I try to configure the Belkin D34 Stereo (Bluetooth Headphones) in the Sound Prefs it disconnects and I get the 'A Bluetooth audio error occured' window.

Has anyone gotten the same problem and is there a cure?

Greetings from white Carcassonne

Claude
