Bluetooth audio in OSX Lion

In Snow leopard, I would use a plantronics bluetooth headset for facetime and skype chats. Now, in Lion, I can't. I keep getting a bluetooth audio error. I live in a dead zone, so this is a pretty important thing for me.

The console shows the following errors:

I have also noticed that odd things happen to my audio as long as the device is paired, wether or not it is active. Audio is sometimes output as mono, volume controls do not work for the line out, and audio mutes (even thoguh it is shown as unmuted) at random moments. None of this can be resolved as long as the headset is paired.

Is there anything I can do to get my iMac to use the bluetooth earpiece that worked just fine in Snow Leopard?

I did download and install the latest xCode, once it is installed.

Click in the Xcode icon and open it.

In the top menu: Click on Xcode

then 'Open Developer Tools' -> 'More Developer Tools'

You will need to sign in or create an account as Xcode developer. When you sign in just type in the search field 'hardware io'.

Select and download the latest version of Hardware IO Tools for Xcode.

Once is download open the *.dmg file. In the other hand, in your application Xcode app folder do a right click and select: 'show package content'

Drag and drop all the tools from the 'hardware io' dmg file you just downloaded and place them in the 'contents->applications folder inside the Xcode app folder.

Now if you open the Xcode->Open Developers tools->Bluethoot Explorer

With Bluethoot Explorer open select from the top menu: Tools->Audio Options

I played with the options and realized that the problem was in my case with the bit rate. So I increased the number of packets that can be buffered to 50 and also the latency.

There are many bluethoot tools and graphs that you can use to troubleshoot and check where is the problem with the Xcode Hardware IO.

Let me know, with what configuration you were able to fix your problem.

Hi gtmagnet, it seems like I have exactly the same issue on my Alu iMac 24" (7,1).

Pairing works, but when choosing to play music "A bluetooth audio error occurred..."

Playing was flawless using Lion 10.7.2, but after 10.7.3 it's extremely difficult to get my music playing on my external bluetooth speakers (bluetooth reciever hooked to my iPod HiFi)

Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 4.0.3f12

Hardware Settings:

Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio

Sometimes, after changing seemigly random bluetooth settings, it connects successfully and plays music.

Is there a way of patching/replacing the 10.7.3 BluetoothAudioAgent with the older and working 10.7.2 one?

and from what I can tell from that iMac model 7,1 ... it does have the CSR chipset, which is what is susceptible to this problem. really odd that this is worse on 10.7.3 for you all, since I was hitting it on 10.7.2 all the time. every OS release has it's own timings though, so I suspect you all are now in the unlucky category. :-(

bought a $4 bluetooth dongle from ebay while I wait for apple to decide to fix the issue. if they ever choose to, that is..! 😀

with the updated 10.7.3b my Jambox does nothing anymore, the original 10.7.3 made it work so what the &^*$# changed? back to using a minijack with this expensive bt box attached!

I have a Jawbone ERA I am trying to use with my new iMac running 10.7.3. At first, I can pair the headset, but the sound quality when using Skype is pretty poor. Then, pretty soon, the bluetooth pairing fails and the whole thing becomes unuasable.

Amazingly, when I called Jawbone support the woman said I was the first person to complain about the ERA and the iMac. She had me do some resets and try again. Of couse, none of this worked.

Skype on iMac is the one and only reason I bought the headset. Any advice?

that is not a valid assumption. the iOS and OSX Bluetooth are very different, and one could expose a bug in the device that the another is not. keep pestering Jawbone for an update and see what they say...

zilch other devices, osx says its connected, music player on pause cause it cant thoughput, no error display than disconnect. I will post the log.

Pestering Jawbone as much as possible, have a firmware poll starting as we speak.
