Send from default account in Lion?

It used to be that you could designate one account to respond to all incoming email in Mail, but that seems to have changed in Lion. Now when I respond to an email it will respond from which ever account that I received the email from. I do some advnaced redirecting in my various email accounts because of low space limits on my universities server. So when I get an email to my .edu account it get immediately redirected to my mobileme account. I have both my .edu and .me account in the Mail app, but use the .edu account to send email and the .me account to receive it. Is there a way to make Mail behave as it used to in Snow Leopard?

There are a couple options. Some mail account will allow you to forward all incoming mail to another account.

The other option in Mail is to add to the list of email address in the Mail>Preferences>accounts>email address*

*Separate by comma

This will give you a From: dropdown menu when you reply to choose your preferred email shown in the From:

I already get email from multiple accounts as described in your second option. This allows me to chose the email account that I would like to send the email from, but in previous versions of mail there was an option of sending "all" mail from one account regardless of which email account received it. I can do as you suggest and change the email address that I would like to be in the From: field, but I always want it to be my .edu account and having to do this each time is a pain that I never had to deal with before.

There is an option to "send all new messages from", but that doesn't include replies, which is what I do most of. Any other suggestions?

I've already mentioned and tried the first option that you suggested,Thebestplacehere, but that only works on new messages going out, not on replies.

I have adjusted the account info for my MobileMe account to only list the .edu outgoing server. This does not change the actual account that is shown as the "From" address. I haven't seen a place that says shows to show reply messages for the MobileMe account. I'm not sure all of what I said made sense.

Still haven't found the work around to this. I did see something that said to "always" use a certain server, but that didn't fix my "problem" either.

So just an update on the problem.

I have another computer (2006 white iMac) that I can't upgrade to Lion, so it still has the old Mail.app with the old behavior. I've look at the settings and aside from apperance the actual optoins are all the same. So this leads me to believe that the Lion Mail.app handles the received mail differently. If the mail is sent to my .edu address then forwarded from there to my .Me address Lion Mail.app sees it as sent to ".Me" where as the Snow Leopard Mail.app sees it as being sent to ".edu" address. I don't know if there is a way to change that or if this is permanent.

hmm, that is strange. I have done just what you have shown in your photo. I wonder if there is a way to rebuild the Mail.app so that it could clear up this problem. I've already tried repairing disk permissions and that didn't fix it. I thought that the behaviour was strange as well. I really don't want to delete all my accounts and recreate them, but that may be my only option.
