Can't download xcode 4.1

I just upgraded to Lion, and have been trying to install Xcode 4.1

I get this error message when I select the "install" from within the app store.

"The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."

Please help!😢

I can download other apps from within the app store just fine.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Hi,

I had the same issue on Lion and was able to fix it. This was the related error I saw in /var/log/system.log:

Jul 23 16:22:45 macboek13 App Store[399]: FRPurchaseManager: Preflight operation for 448457090 failed with error: Error Domain=com.apple.appstore Code=0 "The product distribution file could not be verified. You should check your system.log to see wheter you see a similar error. I deleted the /var/folders/c0/t8bcf_yd7t18mppns6bdzv480000gn/C/com.apple.appstore/448457090/p reflight.pfpkg file and was able to install Xcode again.

Eric

Wow! You are a life saver. Thanks. This appears to work. For me the folder path was slightly different:

/private/var/folders/nt/00zzyjwn4rl70tt8jy32c32m0000gn/C/com.apple.appstore

but it appears to be downloading now. 😁

I had found another site where I could torrent the file:

http://imzdl.com/#

However fixing my App Store download is the right solution. Thanks.

Hi,

I faced the same issue on Lion OS. I am not able to download apps from App Store even on Snow Leopard.

This is the console log generated on Lion OS:

9/19/11 2:51:48.946 PM App Store: FRPurchaseManager: Preflight operation for 448457090 failed with error: Error Domain=com.apple.appstore Code=0 "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed., NSUnderlyingError=0x7ff0742bc700 "The requested URL was not found on this server."}

I tried to delete the file preflight.pfpkg in the same path. Launched App store but no luck, the same error is thrown again and again. Even I logged-out and relogged-in but still the same error.

There is same error on SnowLeopard. If I use reliance netconnect, I am able to download other apps except xcode 4.1, as it requires Lion OS as the current OS before downloading xcode 4.1. (Xcode 4 can only be downloaded on LION OS)

Problem is I can download apps from App store of Snow Leopard using reliance netconnect but not xcode 4.1.

And I tried to download xcode 4.1 from App store of Lion using reliance netconnect, but reliance netconnect usb modem is not getting detected on Lion OS.

Can someone help me on solving this issue? And I wanted to know whether this problem is related to App Store or Network?

I tried the 'delete the preflight.pfpkg' file but that didn't help. Is there anywhere that the file can be downloaded and not installed? Here's one of the errors I got in the system.log file:

Oct 7 15:23:08 fuji-macbook App Store[285]: resource failed with error http://myapp.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZAppPersonalizer.woa/wa/customersAlsoB oughtFragment?sd=448457090 --- Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-999 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Any suggestions?

I never got any error. It said "Installing" forever (without any progress bar or anything) whereas the Lion larger install worked fine after an hour or two. The system.log seems to have the only hint as to what's going on.

However, after more searching, I downloaded from

http://imzdl.com/#

the version

xcode_4.1_for_lion__gm_seed.dmg

and that seems to work so I'm going to use that. Hopefully it's close enough to the app store version.

But it would be nice to get the download from app store working if you have any suggestions...

Thanks!

forgive my ignorance, I need to buy a book - i'm a long time PC developer who needs to start working in XCODE. I got my macbook today and I am attempting to download xcode from the app store and i get the error in the original post and I have a similar entry in my console log.

HOWEVER, I do not know HOW to find Var/Folders to delete the offending preflight package file. Where do i do this?

thanks in advance, I promise to get smarter soon. I won't tell you how long it took me to figure out how to click.

The 'ignorance boat' that we're all in is a huge ocean liner, plenty of room for ya! :-) We're not only in the same boat, our cabins are ajoining - I'm stumbling around in the dark with my new (used ebay) macbook too. :-) BTW, it took me a long time to discover that <right-click> is <control-left-click>. You can also plug in a USB mouse and use the right button like normal.

If you know the filename, you can use the 'filefinder' (looks like 2 faces with a vertical face-line thru it - on the left of the icons at the bottom). It'd also help if you know Unix/Linux, you can get a terminal window and do a lot of stuff there.

However, I think I tried deleting that preflight file, but it didn't seem to help (don't remember where I found it). I'd suggest just doing what worked for me - download from that alternate site, although you have to upgrade to Lion. I think that site might have had an iOS4 for Snow Leopard too, can't remember, but I'd already upgraded to Lion before I found the download problem and the alternate site so I went with the Lion version. I guess Apples don't solve all our problems like we PC people had been led to believe by the koolaide drinkers, huh? :-)

As to books, I bought (used) O'Reilly's "Programming iOS4" by Neuburg. It has great detail, but I'm missing connections on how to put the great detail together, but it has good guidance about using Xcode 4. So I also picked up Sadun's iPhone Developer's Cookbook, but it's for Xcode 3 so the user interface is a good bit different and difficult if you're new. But it does have good background that's a bit different from the Newburg book. However, neither book has the big picture connection stuff that I need so I'm still flailing around.

I tried everything either but none of these solutions worked for me. To got Xcode i followed these steps:

  1. installed an another app, in my case wunderlist, that is large enough to give me the time needed to copy the preflight.pfpkg file to /tmp.
  2. i tried to download Xcode, got the same error. This is needed because appstore will recreate the directories
  3. copy /tmp/preflight.pfpkg to /var/folder/... the directory created by appstore
  4. try download Xcode again

Can't download xcode 4.1
