Jul 31, 2011 7:19 AM in response to lebanksby trderoo,Hello,
I read everything in this thread and followed the suggestion to remove all Apple programs from my XP sp3 PC and started up my pc again. There was still something running, but in the end, every apple program was removed. After starting up again, I downloaded the new iTunes and it seems everything is working fine at this time.
I didn't try everything yet, but so far, so good....
It seems my iPhone syncs again with my outlook, and that was the most important for me.

FluffyPuppy,
You will not lose your music or covers. Think the music, covers etc are stored on a seperate file on your computer, and this is why you. Now iTunes will ask you questions you have already answered before as if it was new. Although once you answer them then they go away.
Thanks D528! :o)After your reassurance, I uninstalled all Apple software from my PC (which is running XP SP3), ran CCleaner to tidy up the Registry, then downloaded and re-installed iTunes.
…And it worked! I can now sync my iPod and iPad 2 again, and see the iTunes shop, and I lost none of my original settings, music, cover artwork, or anything.
It worked so easily and so well I could hardly believe it!
Anyway, thanks again to D528 and others who have added help and advice to this thread …I’m now officially a happy bunny again (although secretly still cross that Apple itself wasn’t more help after causing the problem in the first place.).

Jul 31, 2011 2:06 PM in response to carlmmby carlmm,Apple Mobile Device USB Driver shows up in the wrong place under Device Manager
I want to add to my post: following the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
I found that, under Device Manager display, Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and Apple Phone #2 show up under Imaging devices, not under Universal Serial Bus controllers as they are (or at least the first) are supposed to. I don't know how to correct this, but suspect this is really the problem for me.
Anyone know how to correct this -- without uninstalling and reinstalling everything Apple?

Aug 1, 2011 3:11 AM in response to lebanksby theboldramie,After having spent an hour uninstalling all Apple programs in the required order, rebooting and re-installing iTunes, I still can't paste in cover art! When are we going to get an acknowledgement from Apple that there is a problem with this update?

Aug 1, 2011 10:08 AM in response to lebanksby Morac,At this point iTunes 10.4 works find for me for accessing the store and looking at past purchases and the like. It still crashes when syncing with my iPad 2 though if I try to add new videos I took with my iPhone. That happens even after doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of iTunes.
Has anyone found a fix for this other than unchecking the "include videos" option under photos (or reverting to 10.3)?

Aug 1, 2011 3:17 PM in response to diesel vdubby Piveir,"Thousand is a serious overstatement when there are only 21 responses to this thread.
Some may be having a legitimate issue, but 21 individuals reporting an issue is not a "serious" issue.
I have noticed several mentioning Safari on Windows... why in the world would you install Safari on Windows? There are better browsers for WIndows... heck, IE is better than Safari on Windows.
There are thousands of users running the latest version of iTunes that are not experiencing issues, so no, it's not serious."

Wow! This thread is already nine pages deep and there are several other threads on the 10.4 bomb.
Yet, Apple has not released a fix or has any of the Moderators posted back with any fixes.
I will say that I have had iTunes since 5.0 and I have never had an issue that I could not work out myself, except for 10.4. I reverted to 10.3.
Which brought back the Backup to CD option, also.
I am through ranting again.

Aug 2, 2011 3:44 AM in response to Kydnonby Kydnon,A few things to add.
I said on my original post the following:
I then went to my MyMusic\iTunes folder.
DO NOT DELETE the iTunes Media or the Previous iTunes Libraries
folder.
I did delete all of the other things in the iTunes folder.
Again do not delete the iTunes Media folder or you will loose
all of your music, podcasts, books, apps etc...
Remember that your present itunes library files are in this folder. I backed mine up into a separate folder, in a different folder on my hard drive before
deleting what was in the itunes folder. If you intend to keep your current library (given that it was working for you and was not corrupted, then don't delete it. I wanted to be sure in my case that the complete reinstall would work
so I took a no prisoners approach.
If you have an external backup drive it would be a good idea to back up your entire iTunesfolder before uninstalling
all of the Apple programs.
Also when all of this trouble started for me with this itunes update I accepted an update from Apple which consisted of iTunes with Quicktime AND Safari. Safari had not been on my PC before. I am guessing that this combination of programs being installed caused the failure of a clean working update.
I notice that Apple latter dropped Safari from the update package.
So far all isworking well with the newest iTunes on my PC. I connect to the iTunesstore every time.
After restarting the computer again I can now just click on the iTunes shortcut without selecting Run as Administrator
to start it. I was able to sync my iPad to iTunes. Had to clear up a huge scattering of my App icons every which place
across pages of the iPad though.
All together not a pleasant experience and a huge killer of weekend time.

Aug 2, 2011 4:55 AM in response to lebanksby Booger,I had the blank iTunes Store issue and solved it on my two HP laptops running Windows 7 Home Premium. Uninstall all the Apple software programs using the "Programs and Features" under the Control Panel. Leave Quicktime for last as it requires a restart to complete the uninstall and you will need to restart anyway. Restart as requested and re-install the latest iTunes by downloading it from the website. This worked for me. I'm also running Norton Internet Security and it doesn't seem to make a difference if you turn-off or leave on the antivirus and firewall components because I did it each way and it doesn't seem to matter. After the install run the network connection diagnostics to insure you have a secure connection. Good luck
As for the people that don't think this issue is serious think about this-There are millions of users of this software. Many of them with an issue will come to this forum and end up on this thread. The objective here is to solve a problem not pontificate as to whether it is serious or not. If you're not offering a solution you're part of the problem as people have to wade through the replies TO FIND A SOLUTION. If I didn't know better I'd say your a software developer for Apple trying to downplay the problem. Sorry about the rant. Booger
