Aug 9, 2011 2:01 PM in response to lebanksby jason285,Seems there will only be more posts like these as people get around to upgrading.
Add me to the many that can no longer access the iTunes store. I "upgraded" to iTunes 10.4.0.80 and Safari 5.1.
Safari 5.1 does not work at all, just a spinning load icon on the tab.
No iTunes store. I tried removing Safari, still no store. I tried regression to Safari 5.0.X, still no store.
I have way too much invested in my music content (that I used to purchase via iTunes) to even think of plugging in and syncing my ipod or iphone.
Seriously, why can't I get to the iTunes store? Why does apple not want my Safari to work and force me to use Microsoft product? Why does apple no longer want me to buy music from their store? Why does apple no longer want my money?

Aug 9, 2011 2:06 PM in response to jason285by Morac,For what it's worth Apple has confirmed (to me) that the missing past purchases is a known problem that's being worked on. I assume it will be fixed by the time iTunes 10.5 comes out.

It is more then what Apple has been telling us.

Aug 10, 2011 7:55 AM in response to lebanksby jason285,Through a couple of hours of experimentation, I believe my problem is Safari. The first thing I noticed (after Safari did not work after the update) was later when the iTunes store no longer displayed. Here's what I did (Windows XP Pro, iTunes 10.4.0.80) :
- Uninstalled Safari via "Add/Remove Programs", iTunes store still didn't work.
- Uninstalled all apple programs including MobileMe, Bonjour, Apple Updater, Quicktime, etc. iTunes didn't work at all.
- Uninstalled iTunes.
- Reinstalled iTunes latest version 10.4.0.80 with Quicktime, everything works, all of my music is there, and iTunes Store works normally.
- Installed latest Safari 5.1, iTunes works EXCEPT iTunes store.
- Uninstalled Safari, iTunes store still inop.
- Uninstalled all Apple, reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime, everything working including the store.
- Not going to touch Safari until apple fixes.

Aug 10, 2011 7:57 AM in response to jason285by jason285,I should also note that Safari 5.1 has never worked at all on this computer.

Aug 10, 2011 9:26 AM in response to lebanksby BarbieistheOne,And yet again, for the nth time since the last few updates, my itunes has done the exact same thing. It stops responding after a while and I must force close it. Based on the number of views to this thread, i'm guessing that there are a lot of people having the same issue. It surely would be nice if Apple were to respond and say that "yes, we have a problem, and yes, we are working on it." I was so hopeful after the last update that Apple had included the "not responding" bug as a fix. If I could roll back to an earlier version of iTunes, I would. My only solution after this will be to try using Windows Media Player and only launch iTunes when I need music or must synch my ipod/ipad.
Please Apple. At least respond and let people know what's going on. This is no 'minor' bug. Often my iTunes Library is being "checked" and I have had that fail in past as well.
Sincerely... one very frustrated iTunes user!

Aug 11, 2011 12:49 PM in response to lebanksby Mike1709,I haven't had a problem with getting onto the iTunes store since I downloaded version 10.4.0.80 but I have had to drag and drop album artwork as copy and paste has stopped working and I haven't been able to consolidate my library, it keeps telling me there is not enough space on my internal hard drive to copy the requested files yet I have 56GB of free space on my internal hard drive and only about 2GB of files to consolidate.

Aug 11, 2011 1:57 PM in response to lebanksby ivytheplant,Add me to another user that can't access the iTunes store since updating to 10.4. I don't even have Safari installed on this computer for that to be an issue. I considered uninstalling and installing 10.3, but I'm not really looking forward to doing that, considering the huge amount of time I spent correcting all the erroneous artist and album info on my (mostly purchased from iTunes) library. Hopefully it will fix in the next update.

Aug 11, 2011 3:49 PM in response to Mike1709by siramic,Add me to the list of those who cannot connect to the iTunes Store, even though Diagnostics shows all green. Apple Mobile Device is also using a constant 25-30% CPUs on my Windows 7 64-bit PC." Houston, we have a problem".... Build # 10.4.0.80

Aug 12, 2011 1:12 AM in response to ivytheplantby juzzle,To all, some advice:
I followed the instructions/recommendations left by other here - basically I restored my machine to a July 24 version (which had 10.3 on it, ie. pre 10.4 upgrade). I noticed that in versions of my machine after that displayed and annoying "AppleSyncNotifier.exe" error on startup associated with "sqlite".
Interestingly where this startup error was present and even after retrograding to 10.3 (after removal of all Apple software), where this startup issue persisted, iTunes 10.3 still had the capacity to max out my CPU to 100% with no chance of Ctrl-Alt+Del to kill the task (ie., it was like a 110% CPU).
Anyway, if you have a system restore option to 24th or 20th July (the date of the iTunes 10.4 release), you might like to roll back - it's worked perfectly for me.
Obviously, as soon as do, make sure you selected Automatically Download New Version to OFF ;-/

Aug 12, 2011 9:37 AM in response to lebanksby NineOneOne,I've scanned this thread but didn't see any posts about my problem. In syncing both my iPhone and iPad with Outlook on my PC running Windows 7 (64 bit) the calendar event dates and times sent to the mobile devices are all wrong. Before updating itunes, this calendar sync was working fine. Is this issue also a function of problems with the latest itunes version?

Aug 12, 2011 10:06 AM in response to jason285by Crazy_Fish,Thanks a lot. That really worked for me (windows 7). I spend so much time to find a working solution. I also tried die Apple-Support (Express Lane, or how they call it). I described the problem quite accurate and evend send them the diagnosis repot from itunes. They promised to answer within 24 hours. It took longer so they appologized. I was looking forward to have a solution right in the next lines but all I got was a lousy standard answer like "you said you had either Problem A or B. If it was this read the first part of the mail" and so on. Just a bunch of links to support-pages I've already seen and didn't help.
So really big thanks again.

Aug 12, 2011 1:57 PM in response to lebanksby elipticmite58,I had the same symptoms described throughout the post. I have it fixed the problem on my machine and this is what I did:
Uninstalled everything affiliated with Apple software:
iTunes 10.4
Apple AppSupport
Apple Mobile Device Support
AppleSoftware Update
Bonjour
QuickTime
Safari
Ran a program (Advanced SystemCare 4) to look for, identifyand delete any files not deleted with the original removal, in particular toclean the registry for any remnants of Apple software. There are lots of registry cleaningapplications to choose from.
www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
(I paid for the fullfeature application, the free version may work, but doubtful)
Ran a thorough defrag on the entire drive.
Re-booted the system.
Downloaded and reinstalled the iTunes 10.4 application.
Everything worked fine after the above referenced process, including resolving the system resource spikes on the CPU and Drive. I did not install Safari.
I’m using an HP laptop (approx 4 yrs old) with XP and SP2and SP3 updates with an AMD processor. Hope this helps or at least colaborats some of the other posts. Good Luck.
