Q: Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80? I cannot get it to connect to the iTunes store, nor will it back-up my iPhone. I also cannot paste album art. I see a lot of posts referring to the same issues, but no official replies from Apple. It's as if they are acting as if there is nothing wrong.

    Have verified that you can fix by completely uninstalling, registry clean, reinstall 10.4.0.80, see my notes:

    Note All:

    The Un-Installing/Re-Installing fix works for some but not all issues.

    For example.  My issue is that my iPhone4 and iPad2 both fail during synch while Optimizing Photos.  The issue also occurs on my wifes Vista laptop with an iPhone4.  These issue came into existance for us with 10.4.0.80

    Completly un-installing and re-installing in the correct sequence via Apples procedure had no effect at all for me.  When I called Apple they told me that was the only trouble shooting step they had.  My plan is to wait for the next release.  I was told there would be one more iTunes update before they release 10.5.  No ETA was provided.

    APPLE PLEASE FIX!!!!

    I had this problem and found that it was a sub-folder in the specified sync photo folder.

    When I moved sub-folder out so that all the sub-folders matched what was on the camera roll, the sync worked ok.

    I finally got the itunes going. I first downloaded a fresh copy of the itunes software 10.4.0.8 from the apple site and saved a copy on my PC (Use a Windows Vista, SP2). Therefater I executed the saved file, which opened up a window asking me the options as what I wanted to do....Repair or Remove. I went for removal and the itunes along with quicktime player were removed. Thereafter, I removed all the  apple related software from 'Uninstall Programs' (the safari was already uninstalled earlier as per recommendations during discussion). I restarted the PC and then reinstalled the saved itunes file. The itunes installed all components without any problems. Noteworthy and would like to mention that I did not remove any of the folders or use any registry cleaner prior to reinstalling itunes.

    I now have no problems surfing the itunes store or syncronising my iphone; even did a recent purchase of an application. So I suppose for the timebeing, I may have sorted out the problem...Keeping my fingers crossed as a new update may lead me to a similar loop. But till then I hope it works fine.

    Brand new ipod touch (4th gen) is now practically useless for anything other than a paper weight until apple release a fix for what they've broken after attempting to update the firmware and yes, I have tried the several methods mentioned.

    Honestly I enjoy wasting £200 on things that don't work (also got a 2nd gen touch as well, just as useless too)

    Idea was music on the 2g and apps, books and everything else on the 4g

    Thank you Apple

    Thank you soo soo much for taking my money and no doubt other peoples and not talking to YOUR customers

    luckily, i saved the installer for my old 10.2.2.14 version of itunes. i got rid of all the updated apple stuff and replaced it with the older versions and i'm having no problems now... had to reimport my entire library (105,000 songs), but it could have been worse- at leaast i have my smoothly (and fully) functioning itunes again.

    i learned my lesson years ago with apple and their total lack of concern for windows users and started saving the installer exe for versions that work well just for occasions when their updates don't play nice w/ windows.

    btw, i have an HP ProBook 4520s (32 bit). i could upload my older itunes exe to mediafire and share if anyone out there is interested...

    I trusted Apple! Until a few days ago everything worked fine. I'm a professional musician, love my iPhone and have spent a "fortune" on iTunes. My two kids have their own iPod Touch and we share the iTunes library. Never ever would I have imagined to go into all sorts of technical depths and corners again, like I used to do once in a while when Windows was still obviously MS-Dos in disguise (it probably still is). Went through all checklists, performed and passed diagnostic tests, checked port settings, upgraded virsusoftware, run scans, and finally ended here in the user forum, the last stop  before paying bills for help-desk services I feel I have already paid for!

    Back from a vacation I upgrade the full Monty (iTunes 10.4.0.80 and the new versions for Safari and the moviethingy). My iPhone seemed to have passed once in the upgrade but was'nt able to copy itself. Our 32GB iPod 3 lost it's purchases and couldn't leave a copy, so I freed extra disk space. On all subsequent tries neither iPod nor iPhone would go beyond the first stap in syncing (making a copy of itself). No error message, no hang-up (according the Window Task Manager), just no progress, none! In the old days of slam-dunk programming we called this an infinite loop! Old mistakes in programming are made over and over again, when compnies go for cost reductions and hire inexperienced youth (the slam dunkers) while discharging the experienced guys.

    I sure hope & belief this is not a "trick" by Apple to

    1) make money from their pais help desk services

    2) herding their clients to the iCloud and let them pay extra

    3) make their clients dump their MicroSoft based machines to buy Apple stuff (which I considered anyway)

    I am pretty sure Apple will fix this soon by issuing a new release of iTunes quickly. It is more in line with their image on the market.

    If not, sell your stocks because it means the wrong sort of people have taken over the Apple company. Which would be a great loss to the world, would'nt it?

    I have the same problem, was pleased to find this thread in that I'm not the only one, let alone the proposed solutions.

    My problem is I can't sync my iPhone 4 (Verizon) nor iPod Touch. I've had a myriad of different errors, but they all occur during sync. My computer also appears to run slower, probably due to memory leaks in iTunes. Win 7 SP1 64 bit Dell.

    I have 20+ years in the software business, working for vendors the whole time. iTunes is the worse piece of crap software I have seen in a long long time. They basically didn't test this latest version at all. Then to act like noithng's wrong is inexcusable.

    Apple, hopefully you're listening. Word has probably gotten out and you need to fix this piece of junk. You're losing money on this one the longer it's delayed. Fix it, NOW!

    I will add my displeasure to this thread also. I have a brand new computer running Windows 7 on a 32 bit system and have tracked my problems synching my iPhone 4, iPod and iPad for well over a week now. I have unloaded and loaded the software onto my computer 3 times now and won't be doing it a 4th time.

    There are always people out there who say that everything in their Apple world is just perfect, but I can say I too have had a myriad of errors for well over a week, iTunes 10.4 is garbage, its the worst version of iTunes I've seen in the 8 years I've had my devices. My iPhone 4 is a year old now and I got my iPad for Christmas 2010.

    Apple, please look at all of the complaints here. This version of iTunes is utter garbage and we consumers want it fixed pronto!

    <sigh>

    Here we go again.....new version of iTunes, out now!  10.4.1!

    Good luck everyone.

    Myself, I'm keeping my expectations low; the amount of memory leaks and command glitches are getting almost too numerous for them to possibly fix all at once...or ever....

    Hmmmm....well, it's a start!

    • "Fixes a problem where the media keys on some third-party keyboards work inconsistently with iTunes ;

    • Addresses issues with adding artwork to songs and videos ;

    • Resolves an issue which may cause iTunes to become unresponsive when purchasing an HD movie."

    Well, I can confirm that they at least fixed the podcast sync problem.  A bunch of my subscriptions were grayed out and now they're happily downloading.

    Great!

    One issue down, only 487 to go....

    Don't like Apple's attitude on this. This is the kinda stuff that will drive me to Android...

    Thanks for confirming mate! I was hopeful the new update would fix it but it looks like Apple is still neglecting this. I'm sticking with the old verion of iTunes 10.3.
