Q: Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80? I cannot get it to connect to the iTunes store, nor will it back-up my iPhone. I also cannot paste album art. I see a lot of posts referring to the same issues, but no official replies from Apple. It's as if they are acting as if there is nothing wrong.

    I agree, but for a different reason the predominant part of my iTunes library is TV Episodes and Movies, which I have bought through the iTunes Store, Apple seem to be completely fogetting about TV and Movies in their massive reach for the sky (Hmm I wonder if that film is on iTunes).

     

    They get very grumpy about letting me redownload TV and Movies files and now they take away the mechanism that lets me back them up, and I still dont see clear information about how these will be supported in iCloud.

     

    Yes I can browse to the location the physical video files are stored at and back them up but this seems to occasionally get my files out of sync with my iTunes library and then I get messages saying that my video file is not licensed to play on the device (or is this just corruption in iTunes for Windows)

     

    Either way I'm a worried little bunny here in blighty as I've spent quite a lot of money on my iTunes "video" library

    As for the optimizing photo phase crash, just untick the include videos box. Every thing else just wait for the stupid update. Im buying an android os phone this week. Bye bye iPhone 4....

    Thanks Apple?  You won me over to get an i-Phone, then release 10.4 that has completely messed up a previously good i-Tunes experience.

     

    Cannot access the i-Tunes Store. Somewhat masochistic, as your customer can't buy Apple products.

    100% CPU usage causing my PC to get very hot until I exit i-Tunes.

     

    I am using XP SP 3 and have used i-Tunes for many years without any major problems like this.

     

    So back to Apple Software Centre to sort out this mess and release a solution asap

    Has anyone tried the blank store solution and found it to be a fix for the sync issues?

    it doesn't work for windows7 64bit, even went on to further that suggestion, by swapping "AppleApplicationSupport 2.0.1" with "Apple Mobile Device Support" being that we're talking about sync issues and not connecting to the store and while I have got the furthest in a restore since the last two itunes updates, it hasn't got to the finish line unfortunately, on either my 2gen touch or 4th gen touch

    Dave, Thank you so much for your post. I followed your instructions and now I can open iTunes and actually use it again! For others that need it. P.S. I'm running Vista 32bit

     

    I followed these instructions with the addition of running a program called Wise Registry Cleaner before I ran the CC Cleaner. Worked awesome! iTunes runs so much faster.

     

    OKAY HERE IS THE FIX.

     

    SPOKE TO AN APPLE TECH TODAY THAT HELPED ME OUT.  THIS IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT, BUT IT WORKS...

     

    SPECS

     

    Windows 7  64 bit

    iPad 2

    iPhone 4

     

     

    FIX

     

    Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:

    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

     

     

    7)  Make sure everything that is by Apple is removed including Safari.  You can sort by "Publiser", when you uninstall programs this.  Make sure you have at least one other web browser (like Firefox or Internet Explorer) before removing Safari.  That way you can go back to the Apple web site and redownload iTunes later.

     

    8)  (extra step on my part and may not be necessary)  Close the control panel once everything by Apple has been removed.  Now run CC Cleaner (its free just Google it) and select the top left two Ikons "Cleaner" and "Registy".  Run them over and over until both come up clean.  This is an extra strep to make sure your computer will have a clean install and there is no left over cache.

     

    9)  Reboot your computer once you are done.  Go to Apple's web site and redownload the latest iTunes.  Install it and when it's done DO NOT OPEN IT.  Reboot your computer one more time to make sure everything is set right.

     

    10)  Once your computer is back up.  It's safe to run it.

     

    It took me about an hour to do everything back to where everything is good and working.  BTW, I noticed my iPad II automatically synced with my iTunes without any wires.  Guess it was through my Wifi?  At any rate you may want to go to

     

    1) Edit

     

    2) Preferences

     

    3) Click on the "Store" tab

     

    4) Check Aps, Music and Books

     

     

    That's it.  Good luck and enjoy.

    I uninstalled all apple products, and didn't use a reg cleaner. I then downloaded iTunes 10.3.1, and installed it. All has been fine ever since.

     

    A couple of minor gotchas. 1) Delete or move the iTunes library file for 10.4.x before the install of 10.3.1 and 2) iTunes new installation will sync iPhone folder layout according to the iTunes layout, not iPhone layout. There's any easy way to prevent that, and have iTunes use the iPhone folder layout. I don't have a link, but you can find the solution easily by googling it.

    I followed the instructions given by nathanjudah and this worked perfectly.  None of the issues appeared to have come back and the CCleaner was a good idea.  Only had to run this a couple of times to get my machine to show as being clean.  Thanks!

    Worked well till iTunes 10.5.

    With iTunes 10.5 I did it uninstall 3 Times and hat still CPU issues.

     

    I found in another Forum someone describing the following:

     

    In windows 7, click on your start menu, go to accessories, right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator". Once it opens, type in the following command...

    netsh winsock reset

     

    that did it for me. Now iTunes is the AppleMobileDeviceHelper is acting normal.

    Re-installing everything like told here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923?viewlocale=en_US didn't work for me. I uninstalled everything and re-installed iTunes 10.3. Like you did. This worked for me, thanks for the post.

     

    This is the last working version for me, i'm not going to update anymore. Hopefully Apple adresses these problems and when 10.3 isn't supported anymore, I will update the the (hopfully fixed) new version.

    and then type "netsh winsock reset" enter and reboot.

    Figured out my issue!

     

    Background:

    Win 7 64 bit

    Itunes 10.5 public release

    Iphone 4

     

    Symptoms:

    Iphone 4 backup/sync hanging

    Itunes Store was blank

     

    Fix:

    Uninstalled AVG Family Safety (like net nanny, an online website monitoring app for my children)

    ran command promt as administrator, typed netsh winsock reset

    Rebooted

     

    That fixed boy my backup and itunes store issue.  My suggestion is if you have anything like this, Nortong Online Security, Net Nanny, AVG Family Safety, Safe Eyes, Covenant Eyes, etc. you should start by uninstalling it and see if it fixes your problems.  Hope this helps someone.
