Error 3194 occurs for several reasons:

1. You need to update to the lateset version of iTunes

2. Security app interference - disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your computer

3. You are trying to downgrade the iOS version. This is not supported

4. You previously used apps like tinyumbrella and need to edit your Hosts file to remove references to gs.apple.com

5. You previously hacked or jailbroke your phone. In that case SOL. There are no solutions that can be discussed here.

"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an error 3194. If you receive this error, update to the latest version of iTunes. If you do have the latest version of iTunes, this can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new IPSW. 3rd party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue, to resolve please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod; follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store."

Hi Modular747,

I've had this problem (error 3194) after being prompted by iTunes to update to the latest version a couple of days ago. My phone 'crashed' and now needs to restore. (I have the iTunes logo with the USB cable).

I have the latest version iPhone2,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore, downloaded (in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates), but still get the error 3194 after is extracts and tries to contact the store for verification.

I also followed you advice/steps as below:

1. You need to update to the lateset version of iTunes

Already at lastest version

2. Security app interference - disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your computer

Tried doing this - still gettion error 3194. Also, There are apps within iTunes which have updates available for them, and it allows me to update the app (from iTunes).

3. You are trying to downgrade the iOS version. This is not supported

Nope - as above version 4.3.3.

4. You previously used apps like tinyumbrella and need to edit your Hosts file to remove references to gs.apple.com

Never done this, and no reference to apple in the hosts file.

5. You previously hacked or jailbroke your phone. In that case SOL. There are no solutions that can be discussed here.

Not applicable.

Any other advice?

Cheers....

Will

Error 3194 fix:

My iPhone 4 got error 3194 today when trying to update or restore on my Windows 7 PC. I called Apple and he told me to make sure iTunes had the latest update which it was. Than I needed to be sure Windows was currently updated and it was, than he had me disable my Norton firewall. That last step with the firewall did the trick. I tried the fixes on the internet regarding the Host file. Don't bother with that. Just update everything and turn off your firewall until after iTunes does the restore.

Had this same problem and couldn't figure out why it still didn't work after turning off Windows firewall. I use a free antivirus program called Avira AntiVir and didn't realize that it's protections were interfering with the update. Turned off AntiVir Guard and presto, phone updated! Don't rule out the free programs! Thanks everybody!
