Hate Autofill in Safari 5.1

Autofill worked perfectly in v5. You type a few letters and it suggests the various data you've typed into fields of that name before. Now you type a letter, and your only option is add info from the Address Book. Which information? I have 5 email addresses... so I have to type the whole address out -- which is not Autofill.

Does anyone know a way to get it to behave in the previous way?

Thanks very much.

Its a bug. I called Apple and they re-created it on the spot - so it should be documented and included in the first update. Here is how to fix.

The problem: When you type in the search box, you get no history and no search suggestions. Also, when you click the magnifying glass, you can't select a new search engine on the fly.

The Fix: Take Safari out of full screen mode. Change the search engine to a different provider and then switch back to the engine you prefer. Go back to full screen mode and voila - Safari should be back to it's old self.

The AutoFill in question has nothing to do with the search box. We're talking about the AutoFill that is supposed to plus in information from your Address Book listing or from the Other Forms data (under Preferences/Autofill).

And it's not a bug, just a horribly implemented "feature" that makes Autofill totally useless for those (like me) who rely on it a lot.

I too hate the "new" autofill. It brings up a little window that blocks the text for the form I'm filling out. Apple, please put this back the way it was - I don't have time to mess around with installing an older version. It will just disappear again the next time I update.

Don't make me choose an autofill - I only have one card - use that one, and don't ask me. Bring back the autofill that actually automatically fills out the form. This USED TO BE one of my favorite "better than Windows" features.

So, Saxman -- You're looking at the Autofill pane, all three boxes are checked.

You click on "Edit" next to "User Names & Passwords" and you can't see any listed?

I have tons.

Same for "Other."

Yes, Bee, I"ve been using Autofill just fine, for years, and it's pretty much worked well. Of course I see lots of usernames, etc. listed (but not the actual passwords, as their home is in the KeyChain file. But Autofill will often either fail to fill in usernames & passwords, & do so on many sites where it formally did. Then, when it's just filling in my personal info on forms, the silly box pops up, requiring added clicks & manually making changes, when it wants to put the wrong email in... It's a mess...

I agree it's trash. In past versions you start to type, it completes whatever field you are in, then hit TAB and the whole form would fill. Now you get that **** popup box. I swear it's like they want to slow me down. 2 clicks as opposed to hitting TAB.

I would suggest all who hate it as much as I do to go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html

I doubt ******** in their forum is going to do anything. If enough people complain in feedback they might. Although it hasn't done anything for the sorry quicktime yet. I'm still using 7.
