Wifi worked fine until after LION upgrade. It now keep dropping the connection.
So, i had the same issue and i ended up doing a full reinstall of Lion and restore my machine from my Time Machine back up and now i'm working fine. It was very frustrating and i spend 2 hours on the phone with apple, but i've been without issue now for 3 weeks almost.
well my other devices in my home (iphone, ipad 2, xbox 360, ps3, macbook air and my macbook pro (MBP also has lion installed) all connect to my wireless network with no problems and no dropouts, its only my imac which is having the connection issues and it was fine up until installing lion!
@ applestar
how can it be a hardware issue when it was working fine up until installing lion, which is a software update then it all went pearshaped
this has to be a software/firmware issue so come on , sort it out please!!
does anyone know if apple know anything about this please? nothing has been said!!! they should know right?
bump
this seemed to work so far for me. Havent lost connection yet and is running relatively smooth.
thank you
Same problem here, I have a 21.5" late 2009 iMac, it has an AirPort Extreme card, Firmware 9280: 4.0.58.4-P2P
Feb. 24th, Apple released a software update to resolve this issue. If you haven't done so already, check for software updates and that should fix it. It works fine for me now.
Nothing has worked for us yet. It is an absolute joke. Bought a new Macbook Air with Lion - wont stay on our WiFi for more than a few minutes. All our other devices (ipad, iphones, digital radio, connect rock steady to the same WiFi router - as did our existing MBAir until I stupidly upgraded it to Lion on the same day as the new machine arrived. Now it too won't stay connected either. How do I get my money back on the OS upgrade and revert back to Snow Leopard? How do I return the new machine?
If Software Update has already done the damage, you must apply this patch. OS X Lion Update 10.7.2 Client Combo
This so far, has addressed the dropped connection for me.
I am on a 27" (10.7.4) with 2.93 Core i7 and 12gig ram... I have tried everything in this thread excpt buying an external wifi card. This happens to me every day!
I can't believe apple dosent have a fix yet.
Same thing here on my iMac 24" Core i3 4GB Ram running Lion v10.7.4 Each software update we have I pray this issue will be fixed, however no joy yet! Really frustrating to have to reconnect every time I leave the mac or do something which is not online. Thank goodness I my iPad and iPhone don't have this issue. Wish I had stayed with Snow Leopard now, as I never had one any connection issues.
iMac 27" mid-2011 12GB, 3.1 GHz
Came with Leopard, upgraded to Lion within a month of purchase.
Wifi dropping has wasted a lot of my time. Come on Apple - you are better than this.
Airport Extreme router.
I stopped using m Comcast router/modem combo for my wifi as it dropped even more than the Airport Extreme -- initially, an Airport Express was doing better, so I got the Extreme -- still disatisfied --it is a real issue with this iMac.
(By the way -- I get 30Mbps+ from Comcast - and since I'm paying for that speed from them, it seems I should be getting that speed on my devices, right?
Apple TVs (2) - never drop the wifi
iPad 2s (2) - never drop the wifi
iPhone 4s - never drops the wifi
iPod Touch - never drops the wifi
Mac mini - ethernet
Earlier this year, I purchased an iMac 24" Intel Core i7 with 8GB RAM preinstalled with MacOs Lion. I have completed each software update that has come along, and am having persistant problems with WiFi dropout. Some days seem to be better than others, but at worst I lose WiFi connection every 5-10 minutes!!!
Within our home network we also run a 2007 MacBook, a 2009 MacBook Pro, an iPad 2, an iPhone 3GS, two iPhone 4S, an Airport Extreme (connected to laser printer) and an Apple TV.... not to mention an internet radio, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 etc. Not a single one of these other devices ever drops off the WiFi network.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that the new Mountain Lion update later this month resolves the problem once and for all..... from the sounds of everyone elses experience this is definitely a software problem rather than a hardware issue. Come on Apple.... get it sorted out.... I expect FAR more from you!!!
i am still getting drop outs!!! guy in apple store said bring imac in and they will fix it!!! they must know about this!!
