Restore bounce to Mail in Lion

Hi,

Does anyone know of a tweak or 3rd party program / patch to restore the bounce button capability?

It seems like I found a possible work around this morning that added the bounce function back via a tweak of the Mark Message as Junk button, but my first attempt at implementing it did not work and I can't find that thread again.

Thanks much!

Exactly. Bounce is great for people who are actually listening for replies. This includes real people, scammers, and maybe legitimate companies (though they usually let you unsubscribe too).

Petermac, that website you copy/pasted here says: "The key change from the point of view of this web site is that rejection ("bounce") messages SHOULD NOT be sent unless the receiving site is confident that those messages will be usefully delivered." That's why I re-added the feature and why others want to have it.

My email address may have been hacked through my Resume posted in websites and for years I have been getting emails about unwanted orders I have never made. Very frustrating but I was able to control it with Apple Mail Bounce feature in my old MacBook. The Gmail spam filter feature does not work at all for me, only Bounce feature although it may not be 100% reliable. I wanted to upgrade to a new Apple Airbook and replace old MacBook but I now will not upgrade if the Bounce feature icon has gone. I will keep old MAcBook instead. Evidently the bounce icon can be restored with PC using Leopard but not with Apples. Too bad Apple deleted Bounce feature.

You guys are all talking about spammers who falsify their email headers, fine, bounce won't work there, and only contribute to spam.

But bounce, like any tool can be used properly for good, or improperly for bad.

If you are in an email chain, or if you are getting CCd on emails you aren't meant to be receiving, or if real flesh and blood people are sending you spam, the bounce function is a great way to make them think that they don't have a valid address. I'm talking people who actually typed in your email address in their "To" field in their regular email client, not the regular mass spam sent by botnets.

This is what I want the Bounce function for.
