Why would Apple (if they were here) listen to a spammer about a feature they dropped completely for a reason that has been through a thousand times here? Contact Apple if you wish. I'm sure they'll explain it to the poorest of readers.

    Good luck

Apple, please get rid of some of the know-it-alls here whose purpose seems to be about amusing themselves rather than contributing to the discussion.

    Thx.

Do not assume to tell Apple what to do, this is an Apple user site, it is not Apple. If you don't like what you read here you have a simple and obvious way of dealing with it.

Thank you so, so, so much to both Tucker and Stefan! You are probably not getting any more notifications on this, but I (and a lot of others) are really grateful that you guys took the time to help us out with this.

Finally, I feel like I can bounce back from all the pointless email I get.

Amen. Thanks for spelling this out clearly and calmly -- you definitely speak for me!

If you don't want to enter a script in Automator and would like to have the Bounce button back in your button bar (like me), simply download and install this little app.

Cnet is a fuss. Requests simply too much info to register, and finally does not work. Direct Link (thnx, Stefan, for your patch): http://cronomik1.dynalias.org:8080/bnm/lep/page/downloads.php?lang=DE

    *Bounce*

Haven't been on this forum for a couple of years. However, while looking up how to add "bounce" to my new macmail setup, having enjoyed its boffo effectiveness all these years, I saw this Apple Discussion thread.

After reading many of the replies, I see that I'm hardly alone in believing this satisfying little button successfully wages war on unwanted, unsolicited, often offensive, and always downright annoying spam. And it is spam only against which I want to use it.

The arguements put forth here against bounce have to be coming from spammers - or dare I better define them: purveyors of fraud (wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain). This is true, whether they be individuals out for a gas (or far more devious/injurious pursuits), or corps/businesses picking up our info.

If it's a situation of hacking, it's the fastest way for the unfortunate dupe to findout they've been hacked. Otherwise, it simply and effectively recoils on the spammer. And I have no pity.

Thanks for all the pros and cons, though.

I will be adding bounce. So, if anyone out there knows of the very best app, add-on, whatever, I'd appreciate a reply with same - becasue I see there are a lot to be found.

    Apple Forever.

Except that the spam does not originate from the spammers address, it originates from some unfortunate who has had his/her address spoofed by a spammer. So your bounces are not seen by the spammer, they just spoil some poor persons day.

And that makes you the spammer for them.

Oh, give me a break! That's a bogus argument which has been fleshed out on this forum.

You all might want to checkout the FCC (aka: Federal Communications Commission) guide on "SPAM: UNWANTED TEXT MESSAGES AND EMAIL" at <http://www.fcc.gov/guides/spam-unwanted-text-messages-and-email>  Apparently the federal government thinks spam is not benign - no matter where it comes from.

I never give spammers a break, sorry.

As someone who has contributed here for over ten years, using my real name, I take offense at your suggestion that anyone providing reasons why the feature no longer exists is a spammer.

I and others are merely pointing out that the reason that Apple, Microsoft, Mozilla teams no longer provide the Bounce function, is that they themselves would be exposed to lawsuits that they are contributing to SPAM by facilitating the form of spam known as email backscatter.  If it really worked I woulld be all for it.

But as you are reporting how you use it, you are exposing yourself to investigation by your ISP as a source of SPAM, and could be subject to losing your connection to the internet.

I suggest you stop name calling, and Google "email backscatter" to become informed of how things have changed since you last visited here.

But many many many times - and as is the case with annoying family members, IT DOES.

Don't give me this option, let me use and rely on it for several years and then take it away!

  • Csound1 Level 8 Level 8 (44,275 points)

It has already been taken away, for many good reasons, including that it is a contributer to more spam.
