2 finger scrolling not working OS X Lion

We have tried all the other gestures but the two finger scrolling does not work after upgrading to OS X Lion. The scroll bars are also always visible. Any ideas as to why this is happening? We are using a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

We have never used an external mouse of any kind.

These are the options we have selected in the Trackpad settings:

Under Point & Click we have checked:

Look up

Under Scroll & Zoom we have the following checked:

Scroll Direction

Zoom in or out

Smart Zoom

Under More Gestures we have the following:

Swipe between Pages - Swipe with two or three fingers

Swipe between full-screen apps - Swipe left or right with four fingers

Mission Control - Swipe with four fingers

Launchpad - Pinch with thumb and three fingers

Show Desktop - Spread with thumb and three fingers

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Hi, thought I had the same problem on my 2009 MB, until I realised it worked backwards ie scroll up with 2 fingers to move down the page as if you are using an iOS device. Takes a bit of getting used to ! Have you tried horizontal scrolling in the Launchpad?

Yes, horizontal scrolling works in the Launchpad. For some reason, we just can't use 2 fingers to scroll up and down pages. Zooming in and out with 2 fingers works!

Same computer, exactly the same problem - all the gestures work except vertical scrolling. This issue is appearing in a few forums now, but no resolution...

Go into System Preferences, click on Universal Access, click on Mouse and Trackpad, click on Trackpad Options and then select Scrolling. Hope this helps.

Hi have same problem on My MacBook Pro 17 2011, after upgrading to Lion Scrolling dosnt work.

I've set the scrolling to both ways and is dosnt work.

I installed my computer from a external HD with a running backup of my old MacBookPro 2007, i hade to format the Internal HD.

If it helps I had to do the following to get Scroll to Zoom working on a fresh install of Lion;

System Preferences > Accessability > Seeing Tab
Zoom Options Button
Check the box; "Use scroll wheel with modifier keys to zoom"
Close System Preferences
Reboot

Without the reboot the zoom function still did not work after I had ticked the correct box.

No, not the most logcigal setup - we should see a unified gesture system preference item, not have to hunt all over for the settings!

Thankyou sooooo much fluteboy! Such a simple solution. Wonder why just updating to Lion turned those things off? Took me all afternoon sorting through the forum to find this thread.
