Time Machine + Macbook Lid Closing = System Hangs

If I close the lid of my Macbook Pro whilst it is backing up to my Time Capsule my Mac stops functioning when I reopen it. The Time Machine is still mounted and when I click the Wifi menubar icon it is unable to reconnect to my internet. I only get it back again after I do a hard reset. In Snow Leopard if I did this it would just continue after I reopen the lid at a later time whenever that may be.

I can replicate this every single time.
