Option to use Leopard's Address book layout in Lion...

Is there any way to use the classic layout of Address Book from Snow Leopard, in Lion?

I tried running the Address Book app from Snow Leopard, but it gets an error when opening in Lion.

I think the new Address Book is ugly and far less functional than Leopard's.

An option to use the old layout and design would be MUCH appreciated!

I am using it and I am very happy !

Here are the the problems I found, but I am sure that Mathias will fix them very soon.

1- The Option key used to highlight groups assigned to a contact is not working

2- When searching, Addresses is not highlighting text in Note field

3- You can not print a contact with a long text in Note field. It will truncate.

4- Option to hide field columns when in list view is not working.

5- It syncs automatically wiith Lion and iCloud.

Addresses is the software I was looking for !

Matthias,

I've just purchased Addresses from the Mac App Store and have posted a review of the app.

As I am sure you have gathered, pretty much everyone would like the new Apple Address Book for Lion to revert to the version used in Leopard and Snow Leopard.

For me having three panes is essential, having Groups is essential, having the ability to quickly see who is in which group would be great and, possibly most important of all, having the ability to Edit the Distribution List for all those people who seem to have email addresses for home, work and play, but you only want to send a group email to one address.

Apple Address Book had this facility in OS X 10.5 and 10.6 but it seems that a couple of children have been let loose on the development of this Lion version.

At present Addresses is not up to the mark, sadly, but if you can make Addresses just match Address Book in OS X10.5/10.6 you will have a winner on your hands! Keep up the good work.

Just found this thread and purchased Addresses.

All I can say is thank goodness I have a 3 panel address book back.

I can see the direction Apple is going with OS X and I don't like.

Lion ruined 3 apps.

1. iCal - replaced with BusCal

2. Expose - replaced by Witch (I don't have a trackpad)

3. Address Book - now replaced by Addresses.

And, as said above - make Addresses just match the Address Book app I had in Snow Leopard.

Thank you developer.

PS - is there a way to double click a contact to open a new panel?

I have just upgraded to Lion and am mortified by the poor usability of address book. This is the one app I use the most and it's hopeless now.

We should at least be given the option to:

1. See groups and contacts together - revert to original view (how hard is that!!)

2. See how many contacts there are without scrolling right to the bottom of a list

3. Have 3 panes!!

4. Be able to change the skin, the leather look is awful.

Add another to the list of those unhappy with Address Book and iCal in particular. The way each of them look, but more importantly how their previous functionality has been degraded, is a major disappointment to say the least. I hope we don't have to wait for the next cat before Apple restores the previous functionality available in both of these apps. I expect better from Apple, I expect functionality improvements with OS upgrades, not degradation. Please restore previously available functionality. People should not have to buy third party software because of Apple mistakes.

I've provided feedback through the 'official' channels but note there isn't a feedback section for Address Book as there is for iCal.

I like some/most of Lion alright. It ain't the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I agree, Lion's iCal & Address Book are both miserable.

I bought Addresses. I like how it appears to offer a spreadsheet format somewhat, but you can't merge contacts when necessary.

Moreover, since I synced up with iCloud, all my Contacts evaporate when I disable iCloud. And the ubd process seems to be out of control keeping my CPU insanely busy making my MCP react like a Apple IIC.
