Why do some pages (Facebook) in Safari 5.1 show up in History when Private Browsing is turned on in Lion??

I also noticed the exact same behavior. I wish somebody provides some insight.
It's not just Lion, this happens on Snow Leopard with the latest Safari (5.1). 5.0.5 does NOT exhibit this behavior at first, and then does the same. (I just pulled my last backup from Time Machine and confirmed).
Not sure where in the code this is happening (app or OS), but it's an annoying defect.
I updated my Safari 5.1 last week and am having the same problem...this is annoying... 😢
When I use private browsing, I cannot access password protected sites. I turn off private browsing, then turn it back on, then the sites tell me that I'm not logged on. What's the point of having private browsing if I need to turn it on and off> Didn't have to do that before 5.1,
I am seeing the same problem with Facebook showing up in my history even w private browsing enabled. Happens on Snow Leopard and Lion on different machines. Thought it was a glitch on one machine at first but it happens on multiple machines. Safari 5.1.
me too...Apple needs to fix this!
same thing here. Facebook is the only site I've found to appear in the History while Private Browsing is turned on.
didn't happen until upgrading to Safari 5.1. i'm running Snow Leopard.
Happened to me too. Called AppleCare and reported it. I hope it gets fixed soon.
Just noticed the same problem today (Safari 5.1). Facebook appears in history even though I am in private browsing. Very annoying. Agree it needs a fix soon.
Forget it. I'm going to Firefox. It's taking way too long to fix this major issue.
I think the bigger issue is that safari 5.1 seems to forget saved passwords when you turn private browsing on...

Installed Lion Combo Update 10.7.2 which included Safari 5.1.1 and I'm still experiencing this issue. Can anyone else please confirm? Thanks!
Agreed, going to Firefox is the step in the right privacy direction.

AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, Click&Clean and yes even NoScript (drag a Temp allow all button to the toolbar)
To deny your computer from accessing Facebook
In Admin user
sudo pico /etc/hosts
Arrow down below the material you see there and don't change it
add
0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com
0.0.0.0 www.facebook.net
control x to exit and save.
another easier way (can use in Standard User this way) is to use the free TextWrangler and open file by name:
/etc/hosts
and perform the same thing.
Actually Facebook has a lot more domains

Perhaps a IP block with WaterRoof or NoobProof
69.63.189.11
69.63.191.11
That would fix their arses good.
Installed Safari 5.1.2 and this issue still hasn't been fixed.
