/usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertoqpdl failed when printing to Samsung

Hi,

I installed Lion yesterday on my iMac and MacBook and since then can no longer print.

Printer: Samsung SCX-4x16 series.

Error message when printing: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertoqpdl failed

Going to System preferences and deleting the printer and redefining it brought no joy. I've tried to use it both as a network printer (connected to a Time capsule) and as a direct USB connection (both modes worked fine with Snow Leopard).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Never mind, just found the system log (unix skills are awfully rusty).

Good thing I've still got an old XP partition I guess. Sigh.....

The free Splix 2.0 driver ( http://guigo.us/mac/splix/ ) solved the compatibility problem I had with my Samsung ML-1740 and OS X Lion.

Heres is a list of the supported printers :

  • Dell 1100, 1110
  • Samsung CLP-200, CLP-300, CLP-500, CLP-600, CLP-610, CLX-216X, CLX-2170, CLX-3160, ML-1510, ML-1520, ML-1610, ML-1630, ML-1710, ML-1740, ML-1750, ML-2010, ML-2150, ML-2250, ML-2510, ML-2550, ML-2571, ML-3050, ML-3560
  • Xerox Phaser 3115, 3116, 3117, 3120, 3121, 3122, 3130, 3150, 3420, 3425, 5500, 6100, 6110

When I connect the printer via LAN, it prints ok but brings the message 'SpliX cannot get input slot information'. If I connect it directly to the USB port on my iMac it doesn't print and gives me the following message instead:

'SpliX Invalid PPD file version: SpliX V. 2.0.0 but the PPD file is designed for SpliX V. 1.1'

I think these questions might be better answered in a SpliX forum. In my case, the input slot info message is harmless so I haven't bothered to go to the SpliX forums.
