Lion crash trying to open .dmg file

The complete OS freeze every time I try to open a custom image .dmg file that I created with disk utility when I was using snow leopard.

Because of this I forced a shut down 3 times already. And this is preventing me to access the files inside the .dmg.

The first 2 days with Lion the .dmg file was working fine. But now after I insert the password to open the .dmg file the OS just freeze.

I'm using Lion in a first gen aluminum 13MB with a 2.0ghz processor with 4gb memory.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7), 2.0ghz processor with 4gb memory

I deleted the .dmg file i created in snow leopard, and I created a new one using Lion. But still I have the same problem. It's keep freezing, and just the mouse move, but nothing else.

I find out that LION doesn't freeze if try to open the .dmg file with all applications shutdown. But if I have just safari and iTunes open it freeze.

How many free space have you left on your system drive?

Opening a dmg needs some space.

Same problem here. 500 MB encrypted dmg.

You need a proper amount of free space on your system drive to open a encrypted .dmg as it have to be decrypted to a temporary file which need some space.

Also the decryption itself need space. If you have only 2GB RAM installed that space will eventually be created on swap (on your drive).

thanks for the tip! Works great for me.

Hope Apple will fix this... But at the moment i do not need ocal snaps shots.

For sure Apple will not fix the way you use the available space on your hard drive.

Keeping local snapshots on the drive as long as no TM volume is connected, is the designed behavior of TimeMachine.

If you want Time Machine not to keep local snapshots, you have do disable (switch off) Time Machine in the system settings for the times no backup volume is connected.

This issue appeared in my mac after upgrading to 10.7.2 before that it was working fine. No I can't open anymore the exhact same file I could open yesterday. I hae nearly 100 gb of free space and 8 gb o ram so I don't think it's a memory problem. The mac just freezes when mounting the disk image... I'm really sad bout Lion!
