Trooper, hi. I'm downloading Lion. When I clicked on "buy" or whatever it was in the App Store, an icon appeared in the Dock. Because it takes a while, unless you're very sharp-eyed, it's not obvious at first that there is a small progress bar at the bottom of the Dock icon. (It becomes more obvious later, when it starts to show some progress.) On my 2010 MBP on ADSL this is about 40% at a guess ... just looking at Console see if I can see a start time ... some App Store messages around 14:24, it's now 15:38, say 74 minutes to do 40% so at this rate will take 185 minutes to do it all, = 3 hours. Don'r know if that's just the download phase though. (Funny, I regularly download a 1.2 Gb file on an older machine, a 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo iMac and ISTR it only takes 20 minutes or so.) Of course there is the Apple server load to consider maybe. I do not know if the progress bar relates to the total install or just the download phase.
HTH, Terry.
16:10 - "wait a minute - it's stopped downloading" in the words of the song, or something like that. even though the progress bar never got past about 60 % it's running the install now, i.e. 14:24 to 16:10 = 1 hr 45 to download. Watch this space for a time to install.
--- saying :time remaining 31 minutes"
you might want to hold off on the install. It offers some cool features but I have also lost a few that I had with Snow Leapord
FWIW 2 hour download on an 'up to 8m' ADSL but then it took 3/4 hour to update my MacBook Pro.

twenty minutes download and half hour install takes to me few days ago.
Took me 9 hours on a BT Broadband connection. No Power PC applications are supported so I lost a lot of important apps. Wish I had stayed with Snow Leopard.
Ah lost track, I was away from the MBP but coming back now (17:14) it's on Lion. Yes, cbyerlee, travellingbirder, I'm careful after a traumatic Leopard to SL upgrade (mainly because it installed a new version of perl). The MBP is not my day job machine, that's my iMac. I'll play with Lion on the MBP for a while - then grab a Carbon Copy Cloner clone of the iMac so I can boot off that if necessary - before I put Lion on the iMac itself. But that's a little way down the track.
I'm taking so many days download. god ... it's still downloading continuously on 2nd day. I'll continuous to proceed the download tomorrow if it cannot complete today.
The day after Lion was released, took me 25 minutes
to download with my Comcast Blast service.
Install took 33 minutes on my Macbook Pro and
35 minutes on my iMac.
Total time to install on my MacBook Pro was about 2 hours, with a relatively fast WiFi connection. Worth the wait!
Could be my WiFi speed is rather slow hence took me almost 2 days to download ... anyway .... even unable to complete in one day, resume to download has workout ... in the end, the donwload complete and installation successful. Enjoy a lot this process and like a lot the LION.....
took me about 1.5-2 hrs
