Pages no longer shares via mail

I may easily guess that some piece of code was edited a way refusing to work with slashes in filenames.

In fact I'm surprised that it didn't hurt before.

Ok, i have just found that i ahve been having the same issue. Apple must have changed something in there last updates?

Thanks for the thread & tips i tried these and a reboot and it still did not work.

I then opened a blank pages doc and atempted to share to mail and Bingo it worked. I have not tried saving document yet (dangerous yes) but new docs worked, for some reason.

The problem is probably a symbol you are using. As mentioned previously a slash (/) cannot be used in a file name. Some other symbols can cause the same problem. Try doing a'Save As' on any documents you can't send, leaving out symbols in the file name, and then try re-sending.

/ and : are verboten in Mac file names, otherwise it is far more tolerant than other systems.

Thank goodness for this thread, I have been trying to fix this problem for ages now, can not believe it is something so simple. At least i know how to avoid it in future now. Agree, Mac file name system is far more tolerent than others still, also the fact that Mac can share in different file formats is a real gift too!

Things are a bit more complicated.

OSX was supposed for years to refuse slashs and colons in filenames but in practice, it made its best to treat them.

It's only with Lion that Apple introduced pieces of code really rejecting these characters.

As you may easily guess, I don't know if it's a deliberate choice or if it's just a developer which apply the basic requirements.

What is more annoying it's the fact that the Seed dedicated area reject non ASCII characters and so, trying to file a report, I remained 19 days unable to file one of them and nobody in Apple Radar site responded.

Happily, the 20th day,being in my bath, I received an apple on the head, shouted "Eureka" and removed the non ASCII characters embedded by the French operating system itself in the name of screenshots : "copie d’écran du 2011-09-10 à 14.18.45"

With

"copie du 2011-09-10T14.18.45" or "2011-09-10T14.18.45" which is the kind of names which I use now, there is no more problem.

Thank you for getting this thread started, I had been so used to naming files with slashed dates in them that it never occurred to me that the slashes were now a problem. Thanks to everyone who helped figure this out.

I have just today come across possible file corruption due to enclosed images with backslashes in the name.

If Apple is going to create problems like this they should warn users.

This chars are forbidden for years, in fact at least since the delivery of OS X.

Apple mad a huge error giving users time to replace their old fileNames by new correct ones.

Users didn't took care of the rule and continued to work with badly formed filenames.

At last, Apple whistled the end of the game.

Deliberate choice or simply the result of the work of an engineer unaware of the old behavior, I don't know.

I'm late to this discussion. I have OS 10.6.8 on a MacBookPro, and just recently purchased the latest version of Pages (4.?). I was expecting to be able to mail merge with Pages and Numbers and Mail and get invoices out for my business, just like I did with MS Word/Excel/Entourage. I was very surprised that I had no option to send the Pages docs to Mail. The discussion previous to this has been regarding the loss of this function after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Is this merging to Mail feature possible for me to do as a new user of Pages?

On this feature, nothing is related to a given version of the operating system or to a given version of the app.

The merge feature create a document embedding the messages dedicated to every selected correspondants.

Pages never offered a way to split this document automatically so that we may send the individual messages.

We have to split, by hand, the large document into individual ones then mail them.

I wish to add that using Pages to build mails isn’t a good idea because if your correspondants don't own the app they will be unable to read your message.

I am disappointed since I was able to use this feature in Office, and was expecting to be able to do so with Pages/Numbers/Mail. I see no reason why Apple should not be able to add this merge functionality, and make it so you can choose what format to send the email in (attachment as PDF, .doc, whatever).

However, I am impressed with Pages/Numbers anyway - much more intuitive and way less glitchy than Office. Very elegant.

Here you aren't speaking to Apple representatives but to Users like you (sometimes just more experimented).

Back to technical aspects, I already posted here scripts allowing us to build an efficient workflow.

Once the merge process is achieved,

export the document as PDF

Split the PDF according to the number of pages of individual documents

Create mails

insert the individual PDF in the mails

send the mails.

At this time I'm too busy to search for the scripts and maybe one of them was broken by Lion.
