Pages no longer shares via mail

It seems or so it seems that after the last update to system 10.6.8 I can no longer share a pages document via Mail.

Selecting Pages, Word, or PDF makes no difference as nothing happens when selecting send via Mail under share.

This Pages 09 version 4.1

It will export

Anyone else seeing this problem?

I'm a bit puzzled.

I'm running Pages 4.1 under 10.6.8 and the export to mail feature behaves flawlessly.

On the left you may see a Pages document used for a test

In the middle you see the dedicated menu

and on the right is the mail created with the .doc file embedded.

Now, the problem is to find what is wrong in your system.

(1) try to run the app in an other user account.

Post here the results.

If it behaves well in this case, we will know that the problem is in your original account.

If it behave wrongly, we will know that the culprit is among the files shared by every accounts.

(2) try to boot the machine the clean way (without extensions).

I'm just a bit annoyed because I feel unable to explain the way to do that in English.

Here you will see the system's help page in the French version.

I hope that you will be able to find the English version.

I highlighted the scheme to apply.

If the app behave well after that, we will know that the culprit is one of the extensions available in your system.

Work around for Pages not sharing via Mail.

I discovered that when I created a test pages document. ( This is a test and only a test of the Pages share via Mail script) and shared it via Mail all was well.

So it must be the org document I was working with.

I copied the content into a new blank and saved it under a different name. That worked

I got to thinking about this and tried the org document again it still would not work.

This time I re-saved it as another name. That also cured it.

I'm not sure what in the original document caused the fault. Could a file name cause it?

Thanks for the feed back

I had the same issues sharing via mail. I read this forum, repaired my permissions, but still no luck. So, I followed what TPryts posted about copying the content, pasting it onto a new document and then try sharing. This seemed to work. I don't know if the repairing of the permissions helped, but I figured it couldnt help. Thanks guys for your help.

You repaired the permissions but did you tryied from an other user account?

Questions are so numerous that I can't memorize every case.

If the app behave well when ran from an other account, the wrongdoer is in you account. In such case, most of the time, it's the app's preferences file which is wrong.

Quit the app,

move the files :

<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist

<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.LSSharedFileList.plist

on the Desktop

Restart the app.

You can create a new user account. I have one on my machine I call Test. It is for testing things like this or in other languages.

Open System preferences

Click on Accounts

click on the + sign down to the left. You might have to open the lock first.

Fill in the the account fields. > Create account

Now log out from your original account and log into the new. Try Pages and see if it can mail. Come back and tell us how it went.

Using slashes in file names is a wrongdoer since the sitch from macOS 9 to macOS X.

This one is based upon Unix which use slashes as separator in files pathnames like this one :

"/Library/Application Support/getkeys"

If you put slashes in the name you get:

"/Library/Application Support/getkeys8/2/11"

and app using the pathname are fooled.

I guess that it's why the official international date format is not yyyy/mm/dd but yyyy-mm-dd
I wish to add that using this format is more efficient to sort than mm/dd/yy.

All in all, I must say thank you because I was puzzled by the described behavior and would never guess that somebody used slashes in filenames.

I see some sense in this, but I can't think that it is the reason for it no longer working: for the past couple of years I have been sending documents with dates in the dd/mm/yy format (i.e. with slashes) on a near daily basis, and the Share>Send via Mail function has always worked just fine. It seems odd that it should stop working now, plus it is still possible to use Print>PDF>Mail as PDF feature with slashes in the file name. But the Send via Mail function stopped working after the last update to Snow Leopard just before Lion was released.
