Lion - refund

I downloaded and installed Lion two days ago, with the problems and incompatibilities I experienced, it didn't last a day on my HD and I'm now back to Snow Leopard.

As it stands, Lion is not fit for purpose and I will stay with 10.6.x, maybe with 10.8, I may try an update again.

Looking through the forum, I'm not alone with downgrading after an appalling experience. Has anyone managed to get a refund?

No-one will give me back the hours of troubleshooting and frustration but I want my money back.

Same here.......just restored to Snow Leopard.......Internet now works.......no more flashing screen.........great icons in Mail etc.

Going back has reminded me just how good Snow Leopard actually was (is). I'm switching off the Software Update feature until further notice.

IMHO Lion is unfit for purpose. Pity we can't try before we buy.

At least with Time Machine, restoring was quite a painless task (and only took 30 mins).

I think there are major problems for some users (bug wise), and not for some. For me, Lion is actually working pretty well, I don't think I noticed anything buggy or glitchy yet. I guess they just have to fix it so Lion works well on all machines. I don't see why they had to drop Rosetta support, but oh well. Guess this might force developers to update their aging apps.

I formatted my hard drive and installed Mac OS X 10.6 from the disc I have. Then I installed the 10.6.8 Combo Update I downloaded before I formatted the hard drive and then ran Software Update to see if I needed to update anything first. Then I installed Mac OS X 10.7 and have had no issues with things working. The only thing I am waiting for is a version of Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player to work with 10.7 since I see there are a lot, including Adobe, that it is not compatible and Adobe said the next version would be.

and I'm now back to Snow Leopard.

Most people I know that went back to Snow Leopard sighted the inability to ā€œBounceā€ an e-mail using the Lion version of Apple Mail (Mail 5).

Some have successfully installed the mail from Snow Leopard (Mail 4) into Lion In order to get the ā€œBounceā€ function back.

I want my money back.

Nearly impossible to do with downloaded software.

When you purchase software a physical disk you can uninstall that software and then sell it as used (legally).

For example, iLife 06 currently sells for around $100, double its original cost (people are after iMovie 06).

Apple is giving refunds for Final Cut Pro X, that is purchased and downloaded from the app store, because people were so angry. Also, that is a $299 download...

I had a problem with Adobe one time. They wouldn't refund my money, so I just called my credit card company and filed a "dispute" on the charges. My CC company did not pay and the funds were refunded (with interest) to my card. This is a last resort. You have to document / evidence communication with the vendor describing your problem and requesting a refund. Usuallly, your cc company will side with you, they don't want to loose your business... Apple certainly isn't going to stop taking visa/mc...

what's even worse: all future hardware will come with this Mac OS Vista, so either I have to push purchases back for at least two years or switch platform.

As far as my iPhone is concerned, I have switched off updates and will look long and hard before even considering moving to iOS 5.

This version of Mac OS X is NOTHING like Windows Vista. It does not have any issues like Vista has. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and made sure I was updated to 10.6.8 and had any other Apple updates needed and then installed 10.7 and I am not having any issues with it. If you are having issues with 10.7 then that means there is something seriously wrong with your system and if you would try formatting te hard drive and putting everything back on fresh and not from a time machine backup then 10.7 will work since you won't be able to get something to work on something that is already broken. As for updates you cannot turn them off like you can in Windows. Also I am looking forward to iOS 5 then that way once that is installed I will not need to be connected to iTunes 10.x to get the new iOS versions anymore.

to conclude this thread - the question of whether a refund is possible has been answered.

Allow me to retort, Lion is every bit like Vista:

- changes in network stack prevent you from connecting to 3rd party AFP/SMB servers: had the same issue with Vista

- indexing keeping the machine busy and slowing it down: exactly as with Vista, only in Lion the indexing will start over after you have booted into Windows (Bootcamp) and back

- overall performance (after indexing) slower as before: check, we had that in Vista

- battery life halved (after inedxing): check, we had that in Vista too

None of the above are down to a bodged 10.6 install (and why would that work well in the first place?). None of the above will be addressed by a clean install as it's changes that were introduced with the very system you just installed.

If you have no problems then good for you, however, that you may not experience a problem doesn't mean that it's not there. And I reserve the right to talk about those problems I encounter.

Mind you: when Vista was released there too were many happy users who wouldn't understand what the rage is about - another parallell šŸ™‚

Once SP1 was released, Vista became really good unfortunately, at this point its reputation was down the drain. Lets hope for 10.7.1 or 10.7.2, with an OS from Apple, it doesn't seem to matter how bad it is, people will always hail it as the best thing since sliced bread, which is where we see the fundamental difference between Lion and Vista šŸ˜
