Difference between free disk space OSX Lion

Hi there,

I have the following Problem:

The free diskspace of my local HDD under information is 490 GB.

When I start Harddisk Tool only 160 GB are free.

I need to copy a 300 GB file - I geht me message there is not enough space.

Trash Bin is empty.

How can I "clean" my HDD so that Harddisk Tool shows the correct free diskspace?

Regards

Markus

Hi, it is the "internal" Harddisk Tool of OSX.

Do you mean Disk Utility?

I deactivated Mobile Bsackup - now space is free!!!

Yes, that can do it (that's a LOT to have there -- you must have deleted a great deal of stuff 😉)

Normally, the Local snapshots shouldn't get in your way; they'll be deleted automatically as your disk gets full.

It will be less confusing to folks if you use the actual name. 😉

Well I deleted 300GB from my 750GB HArddisk - that is a lot of stuff.

Ah, yes. Most or all of that 300 GB didn't go away immediately; it was preserved in your Local snapshots. It would have been deleted automatically after a few days, or if your disk had gotten near full.
