Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

I had a good one today.  I usually set the screen saver to never, but I left it at the default.  It went into the screen saver and when I noticed I moved the mouse and got the password dialog.  Typed in my password and it was refused.  Thinking I mistyped, I tried again about 10 times.  Now, I'm not the best typist but I didn't type it incorrectly 10 times in a row (caps lock was off).  Figuring it was a bug, but I couldn't get back to the desktop, I had to hold down the power button and reboot.  Typed in the password and all was good, after setting screen saver to never.

    My issues so far.

    1. Time Machine broken. Can't find the locally attached USB drive for some reason. Does not pop up.

    2. Sometimes my wired Internet connection dies. My other devices using the same pipe are fine. The only way to get it working again is to reboot. That takes forever. When it's finally up again I can't type in my password for like 10 minutes. I'm thinking this could be an USB problem (USB-keyboard) or something since the Time Machine can't find the USB attached disk etc..

    3. Overall much slower than SL. Had to kill it several times with the button.. It seams very unstable.

    4. Sleep does not seam to work very well.

    Hi mauijiminar,

Have tried rebuilding the disc permissions (there seemed to be loads of discrepancies) but the MacMini still won't go to sleep.  All it seems to be doing is sleeping the display NOT the machine which is useless.

I think this is Apple's Vista.

The Bounce function has been removed from Apple Mail.  Sad, as Bounce has massively reduced my spam.

You ALSO cannot bounce an e-mail using Windows Vista.

Certainly, but the problems you are having are not endemic to Lion but specific to your machine. You would have to erase your hard drive to reinstall Snow Leopard. But if you did that and then reinstalled Lion, you would get the same benefits, plus Lion.

Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"

It is best to ask specific questions in their own thread. It keeps the noise down and ensures you get getter responses than the useless "me too" responses you are getting here. See my reply in that other thread.

    • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)

Isn't that what Private browsing was made for?

    • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.

If you are reading the message on the iPhone, they will be marked as "read" in both places.

    • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).

That's a Flash problem. Uninstall and reinstall.

Perhaps you have some sort of incompatible 3rd party software or something. My 2007 Macbook purrs like a kitten in Lion.

    Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Here in Apple Support Communities, you will get answers to the questions you ask. If you just want to complain, I'm sure you will get lots of "me too" and "you say it, brother" responses that will only server to confirm your mistaken supposition that there is something wrong with Lion. That will only lead to avoid fixing whatever specific problem you have, waiting for a "fix" that will never come, or downgrading to the old version when there is no need.

    My Problems:
    1) youtube freezing

    2) Safari will not quit even under force quit - leading I have to force restart

    3) Spinning beachball on random websites and have to force quit

    4) Sleep Mode is delayed. It takes a a minute or two before it goes to sleep, with Leopard - it went right away.

File sharing no longer works unless AFP is turned off and SMB is turned on. Crazy!

Screen sharing stopped working on my 2 macs with now User ID password set. Set a password, works again! Wasted 3 days of scouring the internet to find that solution.

iCal refuses to sync calendar, or even show up as something to sync under mobile me syncing. It works on 1 of my 3 macs. I have 3 calendars and it will only show one on my Air, with an error every time that it couldn't connect to mobileme.

Back to My Mac does not work at all. Trying to file or screen share with mobileme account info doesn't work. Even bought a new Airport Extreme for this. $185 down the drain and 3 days lost trying to fix Lion problems. Have been using Macs since OS 7.0.1 and this is the most screwed up upgrade I can recall.

I have no problems , using 2011 MBP. As for Safari not going back to homepage when you restart it even after deleting history try

System Preferences>General>Number of recent items, uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps"

that fixed it for me,hope that helps some of you.
