Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Since installing Lion I have erratic behavior on my MBP trackpad. After a couple of minutes the pointer goes crazy and Launchpad and Mission Control will open and close at random.

Here's a very odd one. During various searches for sound files I've discovered that although I have a Library in my main HD, the library in my Home Folder has disappeared. I'm right, there should be one there, shouldn't there?

In regards to the sleep issue, it seems that had fixed itself.

I'm thinking the reason my computer isn't going to sleep on occassion (regarding the Energy Save preferences) is not Lion related, but something else.

I know it's unrelated to this thread, but anyone know what to make of these "Stealth Mode" attempts in my Console?  I'm thinking that's why my computer didn't go to sleep this afternoon after I got back from working third shift at work.  I'm thinking whatever this is, it's keeping my computer from being able to sleep since it keeps attempting to get in through my Firewall.

I know that one of the IP addresses mentioned here is another computer in my home, which I think suggests a virus or malware attempting to hack it's way in?

You can choose to not have them displayed depending on your input device (track pad, Magic Mouse, USB mouse, etc.), you can choose to only have them display when you're scrolling (for a cleaner look that simulates the feel of iOS), you can choose to have them display all the time.  Mine display all the time anyways since I have a USB mouse.

One odd thing that's taken place: my MacBook will go to sleep when I close the lid, now.  That's magically fixed itself, it seems.  However, it will only do this IF I do not have the secondary display attached (regardless of whether or not the TV is off, the MacBook is in extended desktop mode when the display is attached).

The port numbers at the end of some of the sender addresses are:

53 - Domain Name System (probably from your router seeing if you are through with your IP address)

    80 - Hypertext Transfer Protocol

    139 - NetBIOS Session Service

These are from the Wikipedia page on List of TCP and UDP port numbers in case you want to look up more.

If its in "extended desktop mode" it will not sleep as that monitor (TV in your case) is still active (on or off). Turn on mirroring and both should go off.

At risk of repeating myself... That's A Feature, Not A Bug™.  Apple made that folder invisible deliberately. It's still there, it's just invisible. If you have a tool such as TinkerTool you can turn it, and all other invisible files and folders, visible quite easily. You can also access it via the 'Go/Go to folder' menu item in the Finder. The reason Apple has for making ~/Library invisible is that some users have done things to their Library folders which result in their machines being unbootable, and Support at Apple is sick of having to fix it, so Apple has solved the problem by making it a whole lot more difficult to play with it.

I upgraded to Lion on the first day and have only one issue that is affecting me:

    - no control of volume from the dedicated keyboard keys

I have a 2010 13 inch MBP with 8 gigs of RAM and a 180 GB SSD.  Most of my apps work under Lion, and the ones that do not, I've removed because I don't use them anymore, or updated versions have been released.  In regards to gaming, StarCraft 2 works better than it did under Snow Leopard - the graphics seem to be much better and the game runs smoother with higher loads on the screen.  Team Fortress 2, although is an older game, runs just as well as it did under Snow Leopard.

The new swipe features are something to get used to, but being an iPAD and iPhone user, its an easy transition.  All in all, its been a really smooth upgrade for me on my MBP.  Prior to the upgrade, I did the usual time machine backups, disk permission fixes, cleaning cache and what not.

I have one question with regards to Lion and SSDs: the SSD I'm running (OCZ Vertex 2) does not show up with Trim enabled.  I hacked Snow Leopard to enable Trim, however, I was under the impression that Trim support was supposed to be in Lion.  Does Trim support need to be hacked again to enable it in Lion?

    Hi all.

Yes, so far I think this is a "sick cat".

I "win".  Whenever I start up my iMac, once pass the Login Screen (if choose on) once I see the Desktop for a second, the mac shuts down!!
