Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you've tried but if it were me my last resort would be to delete the account and set it up again fresh [assuming you've checked your server settings]. Just be sure you've saved any important emails - to be safe.

Yes it was related to email sending. My MobileMe was server wasn't working, so I set the "sending server" (I work in French, so I apologise for the bad translation)  on XXXX:mac.com and unclicked the box.Try this : Preferences > Account information > Server for sending SMTP > check your sending server name > and don't let is use just one server. I hope this is clear.

My Lion is displaying a false reading of my Magic Mouse battery. Stating 99% when it is actually 54%. May have issues when the battery runs dry.

Start up is slower in lion than snow lepard.

Lauchpad is full with unused and none essental apps. e.g full up of uninstallers. There are more uninstallers on Launchpad than Apps. Can't remove either.

Full screen is primary display and ignore the secondary display, blocking it off. Same with Lauchpad. Could of taken advantage of the two screens like Mission Contol does.

I have the same problem with MM battery indication. It displays fine in iStat but is almost always 99-100% in the BT indicator - even when the batteries are so dead the mouse won't turn on.

I agree that Mail isn't working as smoothly it should in Lion, and that the hardware runs slighty warmer than it did with SL. Another annoying thing I find with Lion is that Launchpad doesn't necessarily start fresh each time it's opened. If I select an app from within an app folder in Launchpad, the next time I go to Launchpad it'll open directly into that app folder instead of the main menu/screen. Similarly, if I select an app from the second page of apps in Launchpad, the next time I open Launchpad it'll go directly to that page instead of starting from the first. This happens even when Resume is disabled, and restarting the computer does not reset it. I sure hope this is an oversight rather than a feature.

Ah, that's a good idea. Thanks for letting me know. All I have to do now is wait for a fix for my external speakers to work, and get java applets on some websites to operate and Lion will be fully functional....

It is much seems much slower that is my main problem and seems its everyone elses main issue as well. I dont know if this is just me but i find that when i start up the iMac for the first time it starts with no internet - says no Wi-fi hardware is installed? Also the graphics seem a little funky, the dock is glitchy and has lines that go through it along with laucnhpad barely working and basically all animations are f'd up. Its almost like its starting in safe mode.

I have to restart it everytime this happens in order to get it to run - it always runs fine second time round but its very annoying, i have to start it up twice to use it due to these problems that occur first time round. Before Lion i was fine.

I dont know if its in the settings or something but any help would be appreciated - should i try a restore or something?

Despite the obvious glitches in Lion, my mid-2010 MBP13 runs A LOT faster now than it did with SL. Especially in terms of start-up/shut-down and Safari page loading. Before, it used to take about 20-25 secs to start-up. Then, when I enabled Filevault it took way longer. Now its starts and switches off literally within an instant, and that's with Filevault 2 enabled.

    /swoosh!

Vista or Windows ME... Apple lion is a real dog one way or another. This is the first time I've ever hated Apple OS X and hated Apple. Clearly they could care less about quality anymore.

obviously your using a trackball mouse ... just get your self a track pad. I absolutely love it. Listen if its not the mouse. or the track pad, then you should ask one of your children to help you out...
