Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Hey. I have had Lion since the first day it came out and I haven't found any problems like this. I am also running a Mac Mini with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

The only problem that I have encountered with Lion is AirDrop has dissapeared and doesn't appear on my Finder or in Finder Preferences.

If you can't resolve these problems soon and they continue to irritate you then remember that there is a Mac OS Lion Recovery Partion that is created when you upgrade to lion. It might be worth checking out. To acess it restart you mac and hold the alt key when you startup.

    Hope this helps you.

I agree. Now I have a bunch of mediocre fonts , language translations, and printer drivers I'll never use and which I normally de-select during installation. The lack of user-interactivity reminded me of a WindowsME installation...back when MS decided they should make all the choices for uninformed end-users.

Not happy with the install process, but overall the system runs well. No crashes so far...

is anyone else having problems with searching in the new mail. I have 9000+ mails in my mobileme account in my inbox. there is also a yahoo account, but this is set to inactive.

when i try to search, it doesn't return anything. i have to go into me.com in safari to search lol.

    are there any checks/settings i can do/verify?

is there a possiblity to force indexing of mails? I was a SL mail user - with excellent search - for years

I have two accounts for myself on my MacBook Pro, one for home and one for work.

Before installing Lion I ran SL's Disk Utility permissions repair and disk repair.

After installing, when I did a fast-user switch from the work identity to the home identity, the work identity vanished from the fast user switching menu, AND the login window.

I did a shut-down and started up in the "recovery partition", used it to re-run permissions and disk repair.

A gazillion permissions problems, no disk problems.

Tried to connect to my work wi-fi from the restore partition, but the restore partition OS wanted its KeyChain password to store the WiFi password in (or something) and of course I have no idea what that is or whether the partition is even writable for things like that.

Anybody know what the keychain password for the restore partition defaults to? Or if it even can be used?

This has definitely not been a seamless experience!

The only problem I have found while using Lion is that the on-screen controls for DVD Player dont work. They buttons aren't "clickable"

Another bug. If I'm viewing Safari fullscreen and open iTunes (which goes directly to fullscreen by default) via the Dock in Launchpad, the computer will first go back to the desktop before jumping to iTunes in fullscreen.

How about pressing the "fullscreen" button on the top right corner, but not being able to find how to exit it?

I'm wondering when Apple releases the thumb drives with Lion if the customoze install will not be grayed out. I think that may be the case. I hope so.

Another bug. Clicking "Use Image as Desktop Picture" on an image displayed in Safari will not make it your desktop picture. At least for me.

I seem to have found my first real bug with Lion. I restarted to test this problem and it continues. In Mail, if I try to forward a message in Mail while in full screen, there is no send button. There is one if in non full screen mode.
