Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

RSJM- look for any lines that show something about how much space or volume is left, buffer size, etc.  I had a line that said I had -1.9 GB of RAM available at one point in there.  Like I said, look at what I posted, and see if you're finding similar lines.  You will have to hunt for this to see if the problems are similar, unfortunately.  I will say this- in doing a Get Info on my Harddrive, it isn't showing that space is being eaten up.  So, I'm thinking the lines in Console that I'm referencing are referring to RAM, not hard drive space.

So, it did go to sleep while plugged in via Energy Saver preferences.

I just wish it would go to sleep, while plugged in, when I close the lid- when I want it to.  Personally, this would be a nice option to be able to check or uncheck, so like if I'm watching a movie with other people over, I can close the lid and just have it on the secondary monitor without the computer screen to distract from the entertainment.  Windows has this for HP and Dell computers.  This has to be something that's possible for Macs to do, since there's a much greater consistency of hardware to address such an option to.

I have recently updated to Lion OS. When I synched my phone last night all was well. This morning when I used my contacts, they were all there. Now all of a sudden they are ALL gone.

Am I able to get these back-they are important ones!

Is this a "Lion" problem? I am also noticing screen/app freezes.

Assuming you haven't tried syncing since you had them after unplugging it this morning, did you try turning it off and then back on?  I know it sounds crazy, but whenever my iPhone starts glitching out on me, usually that solves it.  I've found I have to turn the phone off once a day to keep it running problem free.  BTW, don't forget to make sure you're not multi-tasking everything under the sun (you know how to kill an app you don't want to multi-task, right?).  Having all your apps save-stated in the background can create funky issues, too (I try not to have more than 8 running at a time).

I have tried turning it off and on numerous times (and removed the sim). I tried resynching in the hope they were recovered but no joy.

I was multi tasking and have shut them all down. Have turned off phone since then but nothing has changed (

Marco- Did you closed Safari before this happened?  If not, then no wonder he was able to back up to it.  It was still in your history from your current browsing session, which would be able to happen regardless of browser or OS.

Kelvin- Eeek, I don't know what to tell you, man....

I will say this- given it happened after you had disconnected from the computer, I don't think this is a Lion related problem and would be better off posted in the iPhone communities section.  If your contacts had been gone immediately after unplugging, then I'd definitely say it's an iTunes/ Lion OS related issue, but since it happened in the middle of the day, it sounds like something glitchy happened with the solid state drive of your iPhone.  I don't know if there's a way to run a diagnostic on it or not.  Have you called Apple about it, yet?

Also, make sure when you're syncing your iPhone that you always eject it in iTunes before unplugging it.  Once, and only once, have I had an issue that was created by my not doing that, but I assure you that was the last time I chose not to eject it, regardless of how much of a hurry I am in, because it was a MAJOR issue that was created by that one particular ocassion.  I'm curious as to whether or not you ejected the iPhone in iTunes before unplugging it.  If not, I hate to say it, but that might be the culprit....

The side bar is still there, you just have to open it from the icon in the tool bar (right hand side)

No I had not however, friend went back to previous site by a simple slip of the finger...   I am not okay with that!  This feature is meant to be a "convienience" and it is NOT.  Especially since it maintains snapshots and history of several instances back...

Nothing to hide however, If I have roomates or visitors over it is a shame and an unwanted need for me to log out because financial info or other having been accessed throughout my day.

    PS

and this was not due to hitting the "back arrow/key' which would take you back to the previous site.  It was by accidentally swiping the mouse to the left which somehow now retains a full image of the last several sites you were on....
