Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

And for the finale - the blinking scroll bar is now made so subtle that one end-up faffing around trying to find it.  It is as if old scroll bar in Leopard has upset the harmony of the screen.

Can they not have an option that allows serious users that need the sensitivity of the scroll bar to somehow activate a more useful and practical version of the scroll bar, albeit slightly less elegant, or will that upset too many people at Apple?

Go to the "Preferences System", choose "General" and then you can choose:2011-11-23_15-42-34.png

I bought a MacBook Pro (15") on Nov. 11, 2011 - When it arrived, I could not get past the WELCOME screen & neither could Tech Support, so they told me to send it back to them!  I spoke to a very nice gentleman in CUSTOMER RELATIONS and told him of the three problems I had THIS YEAR with Apple computers!  Boy, did I have to watch my P's and Q's as I was/and/am MAD! Apple called & told me that they would reinstall the hard drive (IN A BRAND NEW COMPUTER) and I received it on Nov. 25th....HERE WE GO AGAIN!  It is still stuck on the 'WELCOME SCREEN"!!!! THE KEYS DO NOT WORK.  I CANNOT MOVE TO THE NEXT PAGE!  I've just about had it!  I bought an IMAC in January of this year that had to be returned as well! What next???? I convinced my husband to try again, so he bought me another IMAC. (WHICH DOES WORK) I asked him for the MACBOOK PRO for Christmas as I am a writer and must take it to another house on our property for peace & quiet...I guess I'll get my PEACE & QUIET ON EASTER! The closest Apple Retail Store is almost 2 hours away (LANCASTER, PA) so I am going to take a leisurely drive there today to see if they can help me.  The Customer Relations man only works during the week so I can't call him today and he told me NOT TO CALL TECH SUPPORT...so if I don't take it to the Lancaster store, this will never be resolved! Meanwhile, we already paid for the darn thing!  ****I AM VERY DISGUSTED****

Yes, this is Vista.  Anyone that hasn't "downgraded" to Lion beware.  I've had my iMac 27 for 2 years wirhout one single problem.  Now this piece of crap aka Bill Gates revenge.  Wife was getting one for Xmas - not now.

That's original, what issues are you having or just want to vent? If you just want to rant, you have done it. If you actually want to address you problems, then start a thread and they will be addressed.

data verified.jpgno preview options.jpgI'm posting both here and within the Turbo Cad Mac Beta team, as I'm not sure who's bug this one is:

I (re)set my preview prefs to 1 unit + 1 pixel, and had to go through these sequences for scaling.

Basically, I moved from a 9now dead) tiger Emac to a mini Lion, and my only true complaint is not seeing a preview to verify the drawing. I think it may be a TC App thing, as during the process bar load, it is very fast, and doesn't confirm data. in show info, the PDF's come up as 1.4 megs. here are samples.

I also chose "communicate with apple" within my primary setup, so there have been about 20 plus crash reports auto sent to them- as per a pic (Jpg's)data claims.jpg

    Hmmm

sorry you other folks are having such a time of it!

Sorry about the spelling I am dislex.....

I think what thay are trying to say is:

MS's Vista was seen as a distarstar.  Meny company shiped PC/Laptops with Vista but then had to re-place it with XP as so meny users did not like Vista and it did not work for them, that sails of Laptops and PC's with Vista collapsed.

Lion Version 1 like Vista, some people don't like it and it's seen as bug'y  If the market was like the PC market (OS produses seperate from hardware produses but the two sold as a bundel then I think the same would hapen with Lion.  End users would be saying "stop bundeling Lion with my Laptop and bundel SnowLeopard in sted". or give me a "downgrade disk" (witch is what Del did)

I think this it why Apple chose to make iCloud not easeyly usable by Snow Leopard and to end MobilMe (if you have MobiMe and like using it you will have to move to Lion and if you want iCloud and don't have MobilMe you need to use Lion or an iOS 5 device to make a iCloud account).  Thus redusing the chances of users saying I want a downgrade to SnowLeopard and for the ones that don't have the hardware to run Lion to get new hardware.

All of the issues that I have are reported to such as mail problems, very slow, takes forever to shut down etc..,

In my opinion this should not have been released as is.  So I did want to "rant".  Did not realize this forum was censored.  Perhaps self appointed, as I don't see anything that indicates moderator in your response.

    Cheers

They are not all meant to be smart answers. Unfirtunately, a thread with a generalised term such as Problems With Lion Found So Far........ brings in so many different issues, especially after it was started in July. People get confused as to what answer or comment is aimed at them and what is aimed at another user. 20 debates going on at the same time, and all getting confused and resolving nothing. Many, many people have solved their issues in these forums, and a great majority have seen fit to start their own thread for their own individual problem, where it has been addressed. A thread like this (which was also marked as having a correct answer by the original poster) tend to get ignored by the other users who volunteer their time to come here and help other users. You don't communicate with Apple here, just other users. So that is why some people get a bit frustrated and you do see smart or unwarrented replies at times.

    Anyway Good Luck

Lion screwed up my time capsule. Couldn't access.  Finally got up and running, had to buy another external drive. Migration assistant didnt work so I had to call apple and they said I needed to transfer files manually because migration has "problems" with certain files.  Now up and running but no safari or iTunes. Ther goes 30 gigs of music I may never see.  I also couldn't transfer applications because they cause hang ups in system and the apple "advisor" said I needed to reinstall all the programs again. I thought this was an improvement......seems to me they have hired away too may Microsoft engineers to work for them.  I am ready to trash my Mac for my laptop with windows 7. At least I can use the programs.  A warning to all don't download Lion without weighing the costs in time and frustration.

Is this thread still going? Obviously it had something to do  with your install. Reinstall Snow Leopard from your Back Up if you don't want to use Lion. You did make a back up didn't you?

And there are over six million people who seem to have few or no issues.

Funny thing is I am using my iPad to reply to discussion. Wha t a joke.  I just sent apple a terse reply as I spent over 14 hours this past week trying to resolve Lion problems. They were nice and really tried to help. I even had an engineer on the phone that said my problem couldnt occur. Lol. I spent another 3 hours this am transferring my files manually because migration *** didn't work. Only to have advisor tell me it won't migrate certain types of files. Please people don't assume apple is doing anything to fix these problems. I don't think they understand how bad Lion is.
