Well against my better judgment one of the "senior advisors" told me to access my time capsule to check the last backup. I did and it was there.  He then said it was a problem with the software snow leopard and i needed to wipe my HD  i questioned that but he said i was safe as the time capsule would come online with lion and migration assistant would take care of transferring any files.  Once lion installed it couldnt read the sparse bundle on the time capsule.  Of course he couldnt explain that either. I have a copy on an ext drive but I am just not doing anything with it.  I will use my HP laptop until my genius son can come in for Christmas and solve my problems. And he will or NO presents for him. Lol

Just because some one may or may not be in "the extreme minority" dose not me thay should be givine a bad time of it.

It's a shame than any one is made to feel like this by having the experinces thay have had esp as Apple's saying is "it just works"  for this persion it don't not just work!  Also for the support persion to say "It can't happen" is to serjest(sorry for the spelling I am dislex....) that/the customer is a lyer and that is Wrong!!!

So you have a backup made by snow Leopard?

If "Yes" then I would do a system restore to Snow Leopard

Unfortunately, Steve, she and a few others (you'll soon get to know who they are if you hang around for long enough) have a habit of sneering at anyone that is having severe problems with Lion.

What the **** they're doing on a support forum apart from engaging in some kind of voyeuristic schadenfreude is a mystery to us all.

I was replying to James and gave him a couple of suggestions, which he took on board. It's just your anti-Lion Paranoia and the fact of your reputation that make you blind to how people give advice. After 33 pages, I don't need to rattle on, surely, to give them a direction.Your post then was another whinge, nothing to help anybody with. Same old answer to a dead thread.

If I buy a new MacBook Pro with Lion on it can I re-format the Hard drive and install Snow Leopard? (I have the retail DVD's for both Leopard and Snow Leopard)

As for Lion Paranoia no it's not paranoia if I like it and it worked for me doing what I want then I would use it.

But Apples buzz phrase is "It just works" so is it paranoia when it dous NOT and thus you want to downgrade?

The first explains how to install Snow Leopard as a partition on a pre-installed Lion machine (in the event you don't want to scrub the whole drive), which was once thought to be 'un-doable'. The second explains the possibilities for wiping Lion and installing SL only. Note that if you do this you should do it soon. Once the hardware gets updated, SL won't have the drivers to run new macs (EDIT: sorry, having just re-read it, it looks to me like this is unlikely to still work, as it applies to machines that were built for SL but sold with Lion. I'd imagine there aren't any of those left now, but you could always ask your supplier).

I'd also recommend that if you go for this option, clone the Lion disk first. If the SL install doesn't work, at least you can recover your LIon machine.

Yes you can

that is exactly what I did, just initialise the disc and proceed with booting from Snow Leopard DVD and install. I have never regretted going back to Snowy

The retail Snow Leopard DVD cannot start-up i7 Macs - the last release was made before the introduction of the i7 chip.

If you already have (or have access to) a Mac with an i7 chip and Snow Leopard installed then you can clone that to the new MacBook - otherwise you'll have to read the links provided by softwater (which I haven't).

An out-of-the-box Lion Mac will 'just work' - apart from dislike of the new features, most peoples' problems seem to stem from upgrading from SL or trying to get stuff to work that Apple can't be a***d to support anymore. Unless you have issues with applications that need Rosetta then there should be no need to install SL.

After 3 months I have pretty-much stopped using my Snow Leopard partition. It ain't coming back, and Versions is here to stay.

I think it is terrible ythat apple did not give an option for us to recover items for appleworks6 in Lion.  I knew nothing about this as I don't use it much, but now needed and important document and have no access.  Do you know if I can find it in time machine?

If you have some other word processing programme, for instance Pages, you can get it to open Appleworks files. Take your Appleworks file, right click to Get Info, then find "Open With" in the panel that appears. In the drop down menu choose Pages (for example) and then below that select "Change All". Now all your Appleworks documents will open in that programme. Not sure if it works for spreadsheets, though, as I haven't had to try that.

maybe Office 2008 or 2011 but 2004 won't work anymore with Lion.
