Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

stop your trolling. stop double posting. go to an apple store and get lessons on how to use it.

3 things "Apple advtise(sorry for the spelling I am dislex...)" these forumes as a start point for help and some of us like to help.

Secoud some of us live a long way from an Apple store (I for one live over 800miles from my nearest store)

3rd your post sounds a little heartfull  perhaps the persion is having problems that are NOT there fault and Lion is to blame, we are not all perfect and niver are the things we make.

I did! and it seemed to me like the post of some one who is fustrated with problems thay are having that may or may not be to do with Lion.  Perhaps thay should be incrouged (sorry for the spelling I am dislex..) to be a little clearer in stating there problems so help can be given.  It dose sound like the sort of thing I used to hear from Windows ME users and from Vistar users.  Perhaps some of it is to do with Lion and perhaps some of it is to do with the state of the computer before Lion was installed.  Sounds to me as if the Mac needed a good check and clean out before the upgrade.

    missing out???

I'm a computer freek (been playing and using them scince 1979 at the age 14) and have a HND in computer hardware and software.  I am now a Photo-Artist and use Aperture for my photo's and art work along side the "gimp"  I have looked into Lion on a friends computer and apart form the iCloud stuff I can not do anything with Lion that I can not with SnowLeopard.   As for iCloud I have 2 probles with it as a consept

    1) if you do loose/ or don't have relayable access to the internet (how do you access your data)

    2) If Apple deside to change/stop iCloud like thay are going to do with MobilMe then it's all change again and my art/data is to valible to trust to the wims of a 3rd party.

So I ask again; missing out?

Seems like this discussion page is getting into a heated conversation with Lion Os X...

I actually recommend those who meet with much persistent problems in Lion Os X to actually do a fresh install (http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/) of the operating system.

The problems in Lion may actually be due to the multiple problems in the previous Snow Leopard. And when you upgrade to Lion, the problem is brought over with other additional problems in Lion itself. I'm doing a fresh install of Lion now... So wish me luck :)

Note: just remember to write down all the apps you have to reinstall and also remember to backup all your important documents/ DMG files/ songs/ videos/ photos etc. into another place for easy transferring after you do a factory restore.

    Hope this helps:)

Do not be rididculous. If you want to assist then do so. Who told you that most Lion users have no issues? Ciaopaty is very right in his statements.

There is no doubt that there are significant problems with Lion, for whatever reason, and it's just pathetic to see posts saying otherwise.  It might work for some customers but at the price of the products, it should work for ALL customers.

I have had so many issues with my Apple MacBook Pro i7 (bought in April 2011) and Apple support have not been able to fix it despite sending new disk drives, multiple re-installs of the operating system, lost data, lost applications, all under their direction - just an all round bad experience and a total waste of time.

Apple have now agreed to refund the full cost of my MacBook Pro, Time Capsule, Office for Mac, all the apps I have bought, phone costs, travelling costs to take the stuff back to my nearest Apple store (100 miles away), etc., but I'm still out of pocket in terms of time, lost data, and money spent on other back up drives.

Apple sells at a premium price but they are seemingly no longer able to offer premium quality products.

$29 is hardly a high price for an OS. There are no significant problems, just some believing there are, because their personal setup is not working. Old 3rd Party apps, poor computer maintenance, discs too full. It's all coming down to a very small amount of people having a small range of issues, which I'm sure will be addressed in future upgrades. I read the same old ramblings after every OS release, and by the next release, it will be the same old names saying Why did they get rid of Lion? We want our Mission Control back!

And in other cases, some people just are not cut out to use a computer. Wouldn't matter if it was Mac or Windows. That's why they still make Abacuses

    Cheerio
