Q: Problems With Lion (Found So Far).....

I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

    your post rases 3 points.

    1) Yes Lion is cheep but meany people will have it as part of the package when thay buy a Mac.  Apple is amed at high end and as such there is high expectations of there products.  When one pays over €2000 for a computer system one expects a high level of fuction and service.

    2) With the amount of code in a OS no one can say "..There are no significant problems, just ....."

    3) If as a user I say there is a "significant problem" and I can prove it's not "finger troble"  then there is a "significant problem" and no one has the right to say otherwise!

Well it seems that I am like many when it come to Lion.

I stopped using Apple CPU's about five/six years ago. I just picked up a MBP about a month ago and was very happy to be back on a MAC, but now I do not know if I am so happy to be back to on a MAC. All of my Apps are slow to load or dont load, hang up at launch, etc. I have done clean installs of the OS a few times now, and other fix's I can think of or have read via the forums with no luck to getting my system to work with out problems. I have sence installed BootCamp and have Windows 7 installed and so far Win7 works better then Lion on the MBP, sort of funny I think.

I guess my questians are how long do most of you think that it will take Apple to get Lion OS working with out problems or very few problems if any?  Have most of you with the problems of Lion been abele to fix your problems? I may have to live with the fact that I just have a very pricy Win Box now.

$29 is hardly a high price for an OS. There are no significant problems, just some believing there are, because their personal setup is not working. Old 3rd Party apps, poor computer maintenance, discs too full. It's all coming down to a very small amount of people having a small range of issues, which I'm sure will be addressed in future upgrades. I read the same old ramblings after every OS release, and by the next release, it will be the same old names saying Why did they get rid of Lion? We want our Mission Control back!

This is exactly the kind of pathetic posts I was talking about.

If my experince with Snow Leopard is to go by: My system started working proley at version 10.6.5 After this update most of the system is working well but a problem with the battery farmware update, that lead to two replacments but thats another story.

So perhaps 10.7.5 - and up will be the versions to wat for.

P.S. if you have an older MacBook Pro (none unibody) when upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6.3 and above. remove the battery before doing the upgrade. I can explain this but not on this list.

    "

There is a thing called Google. Your remarks are ridiculous, and if you can't find driver updates (like I just did in 10 seconds) then I really wonder how you manage your computer at all. It IS an Epson issue. Most thinking people would look at their printer drivers when upgrading to any major OS update. But not you.

As I was once told, some people simply don't deserve to have a computer."

Thus spake an Apple apologist.  Absolute disgrace.

I'v tryed to find the post your post Quoted below was an replay to as I feel I would like to be a little more constractive.

If we are talking about an "upgrade" did it (whatever it is) work befor the upgrade becouse if yes then a upgrade  should not stop it from working and if it dous stop it from working then it's more of a downgrade.

    TopSteve, appreciated.

Apple head boy controller actually deleted the post.

    Reproduced:

    "

    (2) Again, byzantine software, waste of money Epson SX115 after installing 10.7.2 now discover that software is buggered - any ideas which do not involve byzantine and unnecessary download 900 MB from Apple?  [btw, was fine on SL but still 'flakey', could not risk apple site update].

    (3) Too much to ask for simple SX115 one printer driver only + colour which works which is 10.7.2 compatible?

    (4) What is the point of ridiculous software fiddling? Apple having a laugh?

Please. Any ideas for SX115 Epson driver softare which works properly (instead of wasting everyone's time).

    Will be very much appreciated.

           Thank you,

                                 Tom Johnson"

    [end of deleted post}

As Corporal Jones often says, 'they don't like it up 'em.'

From my SX115 perspective, then, yes, a downgrade. Ha ha!!

One wiseacre from Appleland even had the temerity to suggest the fault is in buying a cheap printer!!!  In that case why did the Apple Dealer sell it, might one enquire?

Hey ho!!  What planet are they on again?

    Thanks, Steve. Happy Christmas.

And, Steve, btw, you have to remember the paid hirelings on this site are not in the real world.

Apple probably gift them a printer to keep them sweet. Why should they worry?

Exactly as you write.... £2,000 for kit which wastes 6 hours in upgrading/arsing around with Epson software? A joke.

These kind of beings imagine that ordinary mortals do not consider looking for answers on google. They love to patronise. Then they run and tell stories to the head boy.

It couldn't possibly be the fault of the Apple kit. Ha ha!!  It must be the end user. Arrogant or what?!!

    Happy New Year.

There's certainly some (I'd call them 'trolls' rather than 'paid hirelings', but we're talking about the same people) who are trying to promote the idea that Apple don't care about these problems and its all the users fault, while running a pathetic line of saying how happy they are with their own Apple kit (they do like to sneer).

I'm coming to the conclusion that, if they work for anyone, these nasty types work for Apple's competitors, as their main role seems to be to further upset those that come on here with problems.

The rest of us are here to help, and no, we're not paid (unfortunately!). As far as problems with Lion go, my advice is revert to Snow Leopard and keep Lion on an external, bootable clone. Update that clone from time to time as the OS goes through development. Eventually, around 10.7.5 or .6, Lion may become half-way usable.

    Good luck!

I am dislex.... but I don't think this accounts for me not being able to understand the above post.  just 3 words long and no quote/or hint as to what it was about that had been deleted.  Are you saying the post that was about the Epson printer and Lion was deleted becouse it was posted on the wrong thread or are you talking about something else?
