I have been using Lion for 2 days now and have come up against a number of issues which are ranging from the annoying to the downright frustrating.  If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful.  Also is it possible to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard as my new quad core i7 15" MacBook Pro is running like a dog after the upgrade!!!

  • Cannot put my MacMini to sleep any more (question asked in article "Mac Mini (2010 Version) Not Sleeping After Lion Upgrade"
  • Safari always opens with last page viewed, regardless of settings selected (can be very embarrassing if you know what I mean)
  • Mail seems to decide when it is going to get new emails and will show no new mails for some time even though my iPhone picks them up.
  • Flash no longer works properly - going to a site that wants to use the web cam gives me the Flash confirmation screen but will not let me select anything (Flash removed and reinstalled but still no go).
  • Spinning beach ball every time I try to launch a new application or do anything mildly taxing (this is on a Core i7 15" MacBook Pro with 4 Gb Ram.

Before the upgrade everything was fine and the MacBook Pro was the fastest Mac I had ever used, now it is running slower than my old 13" MacBook.

Is this Apple's 'Vista'?

Any help or suggestions (including how to go back) would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

I think this is Apple's Vista. I have the same problem with Safari that you do. I clear my history after every browsing session, so it opens to a blank page instead of my homepage.

Battery life is low with Lion, a significant decrease from SL.

I realize that this is .0 release, but it is frustrating.

    Hey Steve,

My list is shorter, but no less frustrating - albeit I already expected these things when I got it - first time major releases are buggy as crap in the first month. While the software is tested with developers it's the "real world" day to day users that find all the little s__t problems.

    - jagged file menus with video "artifacts" (dock too)

    - spotlight opens but won't close

    - can't quit Safari sometimes

    - can't Migrate Assistant from Leopard to Lion

As far as "rolling back" - someone elsewhere mentioned installing Snow Leopard on an external drive and booting from that. I'm going to try partitioning that hard drive and installing Leopard on it (I have legacy apps I need to use still). Keep in mind an installation of an additional partition if you have Boot Camp installed routinely fubars that (you need to boot into MS Recovery and fixmbr to re-establish the master boot record). Lion does appear to support booting from USB drives so working on playing with that and will see what it gets me. Sorry can't be of more help (yet).

here are my problems with MBP:

    1. sometime it refuses to shutdown (infinite spinning wheel with grey background.)  It even happens if you restart from the loggin windows (without user login).

    2. desktop icons disappear.  show info will fix it, but it's annoying.

    3. indexing my hd 3 times a day.  Isn't one enough?

    4. can't clean install.  problem with installation process.

    5. Dock and desktop spaces disappear.  Need to restart to fix it.  wait, sometime it will not restart (problem 1).

    6. sometime it takes 2-4 mins for it to go to sleep (close the lid).  when it wakes up, network is messed up and need to restart (problem 1 again).

7 something wrong with Lion remembering passwords.  My mail apps keep asking my email passwords, after I entered them many times.  Lion doesn't seen too smart.

    8. safari is a bit slow.  especailly with flash...

    9. mission control can freeze and needs restart (problem 1 again!!!)

    10. my MBP is HOT HOT HOT, even not indexing.  It was a lot cooler when I ran Snow Leopard and graphic rendering.

    11.  maybe more coming after I play with it...

I cleaned up /Library/Caches, and repaired permission.  It worked for a day and bugs came back .  I thought Apple tested it before releasing.

    a very disappointed customer

    i have one problem:

time machine icon on the desktop is still there after time machine finishes backups (this happens over 50% of the times a backup is made, so it happens several times for day...)...

Also, lots of complains about time capsule takes 20 times longer for backups than on Snow Leopard....

Please fix this apple, i am backing up things all day now, and that icon stays there most of the times... (have to manually eject).

I will stop the Lion rollout and wish I could go back to SL.

Scroll Bars are often not availabel untill you start scrolling via mouse and gestures, I would like to see a always visible scroll bar as it used to be.

The whole UI is a big step backwards in my eyes, the new site bar with everything grey in grey is bad (lucky I use PathFinder).

Calendar lost the site bar, again with many calendards quite a step backwards in userfriendliness and again you just cant point click and scroll you need to use gestures to make scroll bars appear.

    1. Webproces takes all CPU.

    2. Screensaver occasionally starts.

    3. Overall CPU utilisation high compared to SL.

    4. With Parallels 6 - 12090 , my macbook pro freezes at start.

    5. Till now my macbook pro hung thrice after moving to Lion.

    6. Apple has broken the Time machine with Windows Shares.

Too Many issues with Lion, may be a smaller version of Vista from Apple. Dis appointing this time.

    My issues so far:

1- Mission Control crashes.  I dont know when it happens, but I will notice that my hot corners on the left work (launchpad, dashboard) but not those on the right (mission, show desktop).  At that point I can no longer use Mission Control no matter how I try to activate it (hot corner, dock icon).  Killing the dock in the terminal fixes it.

2- Itunes is not updating play counts over home share.  Mac Mini 1.83 Core 2 Duo plays Mac Mini 2010's songs via Itunes Home Share option, but play counts dont get update on Mac Mini 2010 Itunes.

3- Log In Screen doesn't go to sleep.  I've set up one of the Mac Mini's with two user accounts, each account auto logs off after 10 minutes and that works fine.  However, the Log In Screen just stays there, I dont know if this is by design or not, but I though it would auto-sleep based on the main administrator's sleep settings.

4- Spaces, Expose all windows of course...

Safari is unusable for me in Lion. Refuses to load pages at all, links don't work, awesome font rendering problem, renders everything slow, after zooming or scrolling pages become blurry. Mail was a HUGE hastle to get to work. SO MANY MORE PROBLEMS IM FINDING ON A DAILY BASIS.

WITHOUT A DOUBT THE ABSOLUTE WORST SYSTEM ROLL OUT FROM APPLE EVER!
