There are some third-party peripherals with software that allow you to do that but wireless video hasn't really hit mainstream or reliable performance from what I've seen. Personally I'd wait a bit longer for lower prices and better performance before trying to do wireless video. If your Mini has an HDMI port, that's really the best way to go right now.
I stream iTunes and many other video file types (including HD) via wifi to my PS3 using MediaLink.
Is there a reason you can't use a dongle from your laptop and remotely access your computer through that?
What I mean is, use the video output of your computer, connect it to the tv. it'll create a second display out of your tv. Then you drag your media player to that screen and play. If you're on Snow Leopard the Apple Remote and FrontRow will let you access your media from the comfort of your couch.
Lion does not come with FrontRow however there are work around for it.
If you don't have an apple remote and are curious to see what FrontRow looks like, you can hold the ESC button until frontRow initiates.
there are also third party apps that do this.
Unless your TV came with software that supports a wireless connection to stream media, you won't be able to do it.
As mentioned a media player / server like apple tv, ps3 or xbox can be used wireless or with network cable to display movies, music and photos. there is a app on app store that possibly will mirror the display. the new mac minis will allow display and sound from the hdmi port to a tv. buy a bigger tv / monitor for your mac mini, or use a media player. or a REALLY long hdmi cable under or over the house to the tv.
