new column-dragging option GONE

hey folks!

I upgraded to lion last night and today something weird happend.

suddenly the "column-drag-option" went back to the snow leopard-look where you can ONLY resize the finder columns by dragging the handles at the very bottom of every column. BUT since the lion update it is possible to resize a finder-column by clicking anywhere on the vertical column-line and move/drag it!

I only created a second user account (standard user) for a couple of minutes to try something. and as I deleted that second user account I recognized that the column-handles went back to the snow-leo-look :/

and now I am only able to resize each column by grabbing the handle at the bottom. pretty annoying because I liked the new lion methode.

any idea what might have gone wrong?

problem solved!

last night i did another shutdown (first time it didn't changed) and today it is suddenly gone. the new lion feature to drag the column around wherever you click on the line, is back! finally.

so if you got the same problem sometime than just leave it shut down for a couple of hours ^^

(and when you shut down turn the checkbox "reopen windows when logging back in" off)

I was curious about this as well because I have noticed Lion screenshots with both modes. I found the setting which changes this behaviour:

System Preferences > General:

Show scroll bars:

  • Automatically based on input device (results in thin, grab-anywhere column seperator)
  • When scrolling (results in thin, grab-anywhere column seperator)
  • Always (results in thick pre-Lion style column seperator with resize handle only at bottom)

It's possible that you somehow inadvertedly activated the Always setting, and for whatever reason it was reset after rebooting.

I hope this will help someone.

In my case it seems to have changed from the skinny bar that can be resized from anywhere when I added an external bluetooth mouse. What is frustrating is that it didn't change back and forth with the add or remove of the mouse. It just went to the fat bar with the handle on the bottom and stayed there and I didn't notice right away so took a while to figure out that is what happened.
