Q: Running Logic 8.0.2 under Mac OS X Lion

1. Run Automator.

2. Drag "Run Shell Script" action and drop in Automator.

3. Assuming you installed Logic in the default location, paste the following to the Run Shell Script dialog:

          /Applications/Logic\ Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Logic\ Pro ; exit;

4. Save As Logic Pro 8 (I saved to my home directory).

Double-click to run.

This is not going to work for everyone. I am using plug-ins for Roland Soniccell which is compatible with Lion, so this works for me. It does not work for MainStage.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7), Logic Studio

Right.. I have logic pro 8.0.2 installed, i upgraded to lion yesterday. i open logic and it says NO. this *****. this is the one program i dont want to have any hacks, cracks, etc on, i bought it i need it.

Can i buy an upgrade to make it work in lion? i dont want to reinstal leopard. if so what is the link.

I am disapointed in apple. This is core software and it should work, no excuses, another way of forcing you to upgrade, buy more.... please dont become microsoft....

What's MS have to do with... it's a foolish misconception that has no bearing in fact. MS is a software only company. My version of word 2000 (thanks to several updates) working with the latest Word documents,.. plus all of MS's 10yr old software still works on Windows 7. They're actually very good at supporting older software.

Apple is a hardware company, their software is designed to sell hardware, as you've just become painfully aware. There will be no update to Logic 8 unfortunately. You've been playing the update game quite a while, it's just that Apple knows how to sugarcoat it so it seems less painless. I will say, the planned obsolescence interval is becoming narrower and narrower.

Before, you get on your high horse and accuse me of "foolish misconception", i was mearly implying that in my PC days, i had many problems with microsoft windows, compatability etc etc, i didnt say i didnt like or its no good,. it just didnt work for me.. hence why i have an apple! in 4 1/2 years use i  have had not one crash, or programs not working, all the problems i had running a windows on a PC have gone. Hence why i said dont become microsoft.. whatever its not important.

My point is i paid alot of money for logic 8 and its not 3rd party. As a user, lion is just a tweaked snow leopard, which is great, logic 8 isnt that old!!!! all i am asking is what i can do to upgrade it to work that is all, surely i can download an update in lion to make logic pro 8 work again!!??

The fix is posted earlier in this thread.  If you're not willing to try that for whatever reason, your options are to roll back to 10.6, or to buy Logic 9.

Well, I am accusing you of misconceptions. You are comparing a hardware company that produces the operating system and several of the main apps to a software company that does not make computers yet has to support thousands of different hardware combinations produced by thousands of manufacturers. If you purchase quality components and know just a little bit about what you're doing MS software runs perfectly well and the machines are just as stable, especially in the past 10 years, I've used both Mac/PC for the past 25 years.

"I am disappointed in apple. This is core software and it should work, no excuses, another way of forcing you to upgrade, buy more.... please dont become Microsoft...."

Your statement is pure bunk, MS seldom forces an upgrade... almost all of the secondary software they've produced in the past 10 years runs perfectly well on their latest OS. If you want to think of MS as the evil empire be my guest but if you choose to be objective you will find that Apple has had no problem climbing to the top of the EE heap. Also note, as Apple has had to support more computer hardware configurations they are having more stability problems, it's all over these forums, take a look around.

I can tell you the chances of Logic 8 support are nil: As someone posted in another thread... Logic 8 was last updated 3 years ago, before Snow Leopard came out. Apple has never gone back and made older software compatible with their latest operating system. Should it be supported, yes, but that's not, nor ever has been Apple's way. Apple is the "upgrade" company imho...

    Yes, but...

your gears drivers/plug-ins must be Lion compatible

    - AND -

you will need to update to 9.1.4 (Software Update).

Norm62 put it very well, you have a legit version 8.02 and purchase the upgrade to L9, it will install and should work but there is a chance the some of your 3rd party plugins and/or audio drivers will need updating. Of course, that depends on what you're using for audio.

However... looking at this and other forums, Logic 9 seems to have a few problems of it's own on Lion, but at least the software is supported.

I have the distinct feeling that L9 is due for an upgrade the next couple of months... but I could be wrong.

This is an amazing little fix, to be honest this has been the only problem that I have come across with the update and everything else seems to be working fine, older versions of Final Cut, Adobe Works all doing well. Don't know if someone has already posted this but if you just right click and get info with the automator app and the old logic app and just drag the icon over into the top left hand corner of the get info on the automator window then it does the same job.
