HP LaserJet M1522 Scanning in Lion?

Hi all,

HP do not have 10.7 Drivers for LaserJet M1522 so am unsure if scanning will work in Lion running 10.6 drivers.

Anyone have this printer who is able to tell me if scanning works with Lion? I don't think HP will release 10.7 drivers as this printer is now 'discontinued'.

Thanks.

HI.

I just got my printer scanning on the network. It works from both my iMac and MacBook (wirelessly) and here's how:

1. GO to HP's website: www.hp.com and click on "Support and Drivers" at the top

2. Click on "Drivers and Software" on the next page

3. Search for the M1522 (I have a M1522nf) and click on the printer that you want

4. THIS IS KEY: When the list of OS comes up choose "Mac OS X" WITH NO VERSION EXTENSION - that is don't go to "Mac OS X 10.7"

5. Download and install the most recent version of hte driver. I ended up with:

HPLaserJetM152MFPseries1.4.0.dmg

6. Run the program and install the software.

You do not need to plug the USB cable into the printer if it is a networked printer.

7. You can then scan from "HP Director" - the program you've installed.

Image Capture doesn't work, you need to use the HP software, but so far that works well for me. I've done it on both my Macs.

Hi all,

Well I decided to bite the bullet and install Lion. I partioned the drive just to be safe so have SL running on one partition and Lion running on the other.

Anyway, under Lion, I can scan and print just fine. Did not have to install the HP software. I am running the 10.6 HP software in Lion and I can scan with no issues.

Weird but there you go 🙂

I will still keep my eye out for the 10.7 drivers which HP will hopefully release soon for people who are having issues scanning.

Many thanks...

PS: Printer is connected directly to iMac.

Wanted to provide an update as I've been pulling my hair out for many weeks on this issue and now hopefully found a resolution.

The potentially big news here is that HP upgraded its Lion drivers as of 12/14/11, to version 1.5.0. This is the version that I downloaded.

I just went to the HP web site and downloaded the latest driver for my HP M1522np. I reset my printing system first (System Prefs > Print and Scan > Right-click on the list of printers on the left side), then installed the driver. I went through the steps of "HP Setup Assistant". I restarted and -- voila -- the scanning part of my M1522np started being recognized again, just as before I upgraded to Lion.

Since I had done all of this previously with no luck, I'm assuming that maybe the upgraded HP driver is what took care of it.

Now, for an editorial comment. Six months for HP to get their printer drivers working for Lion? Seriously? This is unfortunately consistent with other HP experiences, which means no more business from me.

In order to get your scanner to work with Lion, you have to first delete the files in the Hewlett Packard MFP folder by dragging them to the trash can and rebooting. When you restart, then go into the trash and empty it. This is very important. Then go into the drivers download and download the 10.7 version which is listed under the first category "Driver". After you download this software it will take you through the setup process and it will find your HP Laserjet in the setup process. Had to learn this by going through the HP tech. It works.

The important part of this process is that you have to drag your file to the trashcan because using the uninstall feature of the HP program does not work.

I received the following tip from HP about using the Network settings and the ethernet ports on both devices to get the scanner to work. I tried it and it did work after running the HP set up assistant, and then I went out and bought a ethernet port splitter and extra cable. When I came back, the HP scanner was no longer recognized by the computer. I re-set up the device and got it to work. I scanned and after closing the scan program, the computer said that there was an error and would send a report to Apple. It seems that this might work from time to time, if you don't mind re-setting up your computer with HP Set Up Assistant each time. Maybe someone else can try and find a better solution. By the way, I returned the ethernet splitter and cable that I bought because this did not seem to be a complete fix to the problem. It seems that the problem stems around Lion's ability to recognize the scanner on the USB port and possible the ethernet port after several scans.

Here is what HP sent me:

At this moment we have been able to make the software to work if you have the printer connected to the network. In the HP Director select remove device, then run the HP Setup Assistance once the printer is connected to the network and you should be able to setup the printer and scan.

Yes, you would use an ethernet cable and the ports for each and disconnect the USB connections when you want it to work. What I am doing is temporarily disconnecting the ethernet cable connect (and going offline) and connecting the ethernet cable to the HP m1522nf and doing some scanning. When I'm done, I disconnect the cable and go back online. It seems to be working and I haven't gotten the error reports after scanning like I did in the beginning . Its seems that this will allow you to get that function from your HP until they develop a better driver that works with Lion. Hope this helps all those affected.

OK, this is how you can get it to work. You need to use hp1522nf's ethernet port to connect it to the computer, then go to the print and scan settings and add the hp to the list and select it. Since my ethernet port is being used to go onto the internet, I was temporarily disconnecting and using the cable to plug into the hp. Now, I just bought a USB to ethernet adapter (that Apple makes for the Mac Air) and I am connecting the ethernet cable to the adapter and plugging the USB end into my computer. The hp works without any issues so far. I hope that this helps those affected. Maybe hp will come out with a new driver, but they haven't yet, and if you want to use your hp as a scanner inthe meantime, then you can do what I mentioned above. Also, see me earlier post about setting up your hp with hp set up assistant while connected via the ethernet port.

The way I got my HP to work was posted on 09/29/11. The problems seems to be that the HP will only work on Lion when it is used via the ethernet port and through the Network connection and setup. I ended up buying an ethernet to USB converter (because my ethernet port was being unsed for connection to the internet) and have had no issues since then. You can read my post and see if that works for you.

Found this on HP's website. Hopefully we will see drivers for 10.7 soon which will allow scanning.

"After the public release of Lion, HP is releasing updated full HP software packages for many models on the HP Software and Drivers page. These software packages will include the HP installer with network setup and HP Scan 3. The schedule delay allows time for full testing and quality assurance from HP against the final OS X 10.7 release."

Unfortunately, I got hung up on Step 6. The software appeared to install (although during the install, the dock briefly went away and came back [finder crash?], but then the install completed OK), but then HP Setup Assistant launched and it couldn't find the USB-connected M1522nf.

Thus, I couldn't get past the "Select your HP MFP device" page in HP Setup Assistant, since no printers appeared in the window for me to select.

So, I can print to the printer, but launching HP Director doesn't show any MFP devices available as scanners. I guess I haven't really hurt anything, since I couldn't scan before I tried this.

Any ideas appreciated!

Hi,

If it were me, I'd unistall the HP software, delete the HP download and go back out to the website and download the software again, making sure not to get the OS X 10.7 version. Get the generic version and then install it again. My M1522nf is on the network, but it also shows up if I plug it in via a USB cable. In either case I need to ber running the HP Director software.
