"Show Cookies" button missing

When I go to Safari, Preference, Security: the "Show Cookies" button is missing. There is no "show cookies" section. There is no "accept cookies" section. The Security page is now very short. It used to work. How can I get the "show cookies" button to appear?

Hi Macingosh,

I have the same problem. I run Snow Leopard on IMac and installed an Apple update on approx 23 July 2011. After visiting a couple of sites I usually go into Safari/Preferences/Security/Show Cookies and delete what I think are tracking cookies.

The next day, I went in as usual but the 'Show Cookies' icon was gone. There have been several helpful forum members who have posted a screen shot of how the Security page should look but unfortunately the 'show cookies' icon has now completely disappeared.

After looking everywhere and searching my system, I cannot find any cookies but they must be somewhere, otherwise I would not be able to access some of the sites.

If anyone knows where the cookies are now being kept and how to delete them, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hello Mighty Mac,

I also run Snow Leopard on iMac and I also installed an Apple update on July 23, 2011. I also delete cookies after going to several sites. I also go to Safari/Preferences/Security/Show Cookies and delete the cookies. I also found that after doing the update, the "Show Cookies" icon has now completely disappeared.

Do you know how we can contact Apple to get them to fix their update?

In the meantime here is the workaround to get rid of cookies: instead of going to "security", go to "privacy", i.e., SAFARI/PREFERENCES/PRIVACY. Then you can "view details" to see cookies. You can also "Remove all website data."

Hi Macingosh,

Thanks for your help and advice. it's been a great help.

As soon as I deleted the cookies, some of them were back within 10 secs i.e. Doubleclick, Mirror Football, etc. The one from Mirror Football was surprising, as I have not visited their since last May and the cache has been emptied. I hope they haven't bugged me.

It seems that nearly all websites visited leave some kind of tracking device in your cache, so they can constantly track your movements. I think emptying the cache is next on the agenda.

Thanks again.

Mac-Ho,

The update I downloaded was either late Friday night or Saturday just gone and it appears that the format has changed. As has been suggested it may be a 'Lion' update or a 'Safari 5'. I'm unsure at present.

Hi Mighty Mac,

Go to "Safari", "About Safari". See which version of Safari you have.

Apple auto update installed on my computer "Safari version 5.1" on July 22. This is when my Show Cookies button disappeared.

If you have version 5.1, that is probably what is going on with the disappearce of "Show Cookies."

I sent Apple an email to tell them about this.

Hi Macingosh,

Spot on, it's Safari version 5.1.

I know it is only an update but why try and fix something, it if it ain't broke? the older version was easier to use.

Mac-Ho,

Everytime I purchase a new version from Apple, I lose functions. The last one being Snow Leopard when I couldn't right click and play videos from my new Canon camera in iPhoto. It worked perfectly well beforehand and then wasn't supported within Snow Leopard.

I also have encountered the same problem. I did the update and got safari 5.1. I could delete the cookies from the secruity page up till today. So I messed around in the panel for a little and I think I found that you have to delete the cookies in the privacy section now. It shows the cookies a little differently but it definately deleted them for me.
